Wow. My dad had a blue 4 door 1965 Impala with a 283 for a time, but us kids talked him into trading it for a green/blue 1967 2 door Impala with a 327. So I went out and lost my license for 6 months going 83 in a 55 zone. Oh, the teenage years! They just don't make cars like they used to.

I had a 65 Impala SS 327 4 speed with a bench front seat for my first car. That's how my dad ordered it new. My mom hated bucket seats and a console. The seat had the same pleating as the buckets for the SS's. Out of curiosity on parts, I looked up for an SS front bench seat cover and they are not available. They have to be custom made. I had it from 72 till 75. Great car. It got hit when parked by a drunk driver and totaled it. It was in picture perfect shape till then. I had it thoroughly repainted 4 months prior. No dents and no rust after 10 years. It didn't see much of the winters. My dad drove his second vehicles back and forth to work. I wish that I still had it. White with a black interior with power windows and no air but multiplex am- fm factory stereo. It was rare with the bench seat SS. It was a beauty.

I also own a 1965 Impala SS and every time I pull up to a gas station someone comes and tells me if it’s a 66?? Old seniors usually always get the year right but middle age people don’t have a clue 😂😂 I think the 65 is a lot sexier than the 66, just my opinion 🤷🏽‍♂️

My dad had a 66 Impala that he bought used, he gave it to my brother when he graduated high school in the late 80s then I got it when I graduated high school in 1999. Either 1997 or 98 the transmission went out and he had the engine and transmission rebuilt and just months before we graduated my friend and I dropped a 4 barrel Holley carb and Edelbrock intake. It wasn’t an SS, it had a 283, not the fastest car on the road but I loved it. It was a shade darker than the one at 1:49, but as soon as I saw the one in the video my eyes about popped out and flooded me with memories. I crashed in February of 2000 and it was totaled beyond repair. A Ford F250 made a left turn in front of me and I t boned it on the passenger side. I was unconscious and woke up hours later in the hospital. To this day I have little memory of that day and no memory at all of the accident. I want one so bad and every time I see one I remember the one I had.

Has anyone ever taken notice at what GM did to the fourth generation as for their bodies in sequential form... the 1965 & 66 are similar... the '67 & '68's are similar and then the '69 & 70's are similar... I caught onto this about six-seven years ago and thought it was a neat formation by design.

I bought a 1965 Impala Convertible as my very first car back in 1976, when I was 16. I bought it myself with money I earned, as a bag boy at the local supermarket. The lady had bought it brand new and wanted 300 bucks for it, but I talked her down to $280.00 I wish I had that old girl now. It was blue with a white top. I was so proud of that thing that I sleep in it, the first night I owned it....crazy kid! Ran like'a top!!! I stuck a pair of clear back up lights under the back of the car.I bought it bran new in 65 for 29 hundred dollars 65 chevy ss 327 v8 siearra tan with a black vinel top. I no longer have the car but put 168,000 miles on it still running great at the time.lots of cruiseing down Boston Post Rd in the Bronx NY in the 60"s. Shortly after my mom passed to cancer in 1983, my grandmother offered me her car. It was a 1965 Chevy Impala SS with 2-speed powerglide and Rochester 4 barrel. It had the 327, was white with black vinyl top. I was 17 and would be graduating HS in just over 6 months then joining the Army. I loved that car, but I was 17 and not quite as responsible as I should have been. I drove the car back to my grandmother from Washington State down the Bay area just 2 days after I graduated then joined the Army. I didn't say anything like, "I'll take her back after I finish basic." or anything like that. I had just turned 18 and I don't think I thought about things more than a weekend in advance. She ended up selling it to someone who drove by, stopped and asked. I was gutted. Flash forward 30 years and I have lived all over, spent 7.5 years in the Army, worked for private corporations and was moving back to WA state in Vancouver. I purchased a different 65 SS Impala. It also had a 327, but had a T400 transmission from a 78 truck. I was told the vins matched, but found out later the frame vin didn't match as the frame was swapped after she was wrecked when they were racing her. I have put quite a bit into her, new gas tank, new springs all around, tires, rims, new front and rear brakes (disc in front), rebuilt rear end, new front end, new exhaust, rebuilt radiator and a bunch of minor stuff. I purchased a new wiring kit from American Autowire but, admittedly, I am a bit intimidated with just ripping things out. I have looked for some videos on replacing the wiring on a 65, but haven't had any luck thus far. I don't get to work on the car as much as I would like as I have a few disabilities from the military. Nothing like loss of limb or anything like that, but there are times I can't spend hours in the garage. The wiring, interior and exterior are the next things that need completed on the car, although the wiring would get it to the point of being a really good driver. Any links or suggestions on where I can find wiring videos. Just FYI, I put in "Replacing wiring in 1965 chevy impala" in the KZbin search, and this was one of the videos that came up. Thanks

Wow, Michael. Thanks for sharing your story. If you're set on doing the wiring yourself, the best resource I can point you towards is a full wiring diagram for your car. I have mine for my 65 on a large paper, laminated, and hangin in my shop. If it would be helpful to you, I can send you a pic. Your American Autowire harness you have is one of the best in the industry. There is a gentleman who works for American Autowire, named Donny, that is arguably one of the most knowledgeable 65 impala guys I've ever come across. He's a great guy, and would likely be willing to help you with any questions you might have when it comes to putting that harness in. I'm on the otherwise of the state from you, but if you were closer, I'd be happy to help you myself! I hope the helps! Please Reach out if you have any more questions. PS, thank you for your service!

@@ClassicNation While I was in the Army I was in communications equipment repair so, I have an electronics background. I also used to install stereo equipment in vehicles back in the 80's as side work. While I can read schematics no problem, one fear I have is the previous owners and what they have done to the car. Some of that has cost me dearly thus far. I also have a bad back that acts up now and again, so I am a bit scared to hurt it, then not being able to move for a week. I have decided to give it a go, I do have the complete manual from you guys so that shouldn't be an issue. It's just getting out there and doing it now. Thanks

I'm not confused I had a 66 and somebody hit me in Phoenix had to have the front end replaced. The only front clip the body shop could find was from a 65 Impala. Bottom front of front fenders are 2 piece on 65. I know I had to fix the rust that grew between them regularly probably from Chicago winters. Lower corners of rear window had no drain and water sat there which I normally removed with a syringe. Rust always came back naturally. Today 55 years later I know how to fix those issues more permanently. I did like the SS interior. Did not like the 283 2V engine. 6 cyl was worse.

I am also an owner expert. I will add this ---> The rear quarters are NOT identical either. A 66' is SHORTER !! not to mention the shape change at the rear edge. For a very long time many domestic car makers had clean sheet designs for every new car produced..not like it is now where they milk an old outdated design forever. Back on topic..the dash ( structure ) is WELDED in / you can pull the cluster and trim & beyond that your stuck with it.

I have had 12, 66 impalas not all at once I've had 1 65 biscayne and I still have one of each I can tell just by looking at the side view the difference between a 65 or 66.

What size wheels and tires do you have on that gorgeous white impala? Also what rims? They look fantastic!
@ClassicNation

Thank you! They are 18" Showwheels streeters. The fronts are 18x8's wrapped in 245-45-18 tires and the rears are 18x9's wrapped in 275-40-18's. I hope that helps!

Jim Powell speaking. I had a brand new 65 impala. Baby blue, buckets seats with a black interior. 4 speed, I added nice wheels. As the picture shows the styling and class the 65 has. The 66 impala looked like just another car.

Those people don't know what the f*** they're talkin about I bet they never heard of a 1970 and a half Ford Falcon either but I owned one in the 70s and I killed it unfortunately they're only 1000 made and I beat that car like nobody ever beat 1 reverse slam the engine was chained down it still kept running one time I was going 60 in first gear because it didn't have anything but the headers no exhaust LOL never had any luck with automobiles staying in one piece after I was done when I was younger

Thanks for the video, I have often wondered as well what the differences were. Now I know lol and they are as you said pronounced differences. I am a Hot Wheels collector and I wanted to do the Supernatural 67 Impala and was going to use a 65 as Hot Wheels doesn't make a 67, another company does. But now seeing the differences I will purchase the actual 66 from Green Light.

I have known my 65 since I was 16, as that is when I bought it. Prior to that, I’d been pouring through magazines for years waiting and saving enough money to buy my first project. When I finally got it, it really was a project, and I’d spend hours in the car, taking things apart and putting them back together, just to see how it all went and fixing things as my measly budget would allow. So, there are plenty of folks who know more about them then me, but I’d like to think I know my way around a 65 impala. Cheers!

Could you please explain to people the difference between a four door hard top and a four door sedan? Just because a car has a solid steel roof, dose not make it a hard top. I get into arguments with people at car shows where I display my four door hard top and the yell and complain that their four door sedan is a hard top.
