Back in the 1980's I did three 6 to V8 conversions. All 66 cars. All were ran with the original steering and brake parts. On the auto trans cars all you need is a V8 bellhousing and torque converter. The trans itself will work as is. You need V8 engine brackets and V8 pedal linkage. On my 66 I went 6 to 289 with a 4 speed. I was pretty hard on the car with the 4 lug and 6 cylinder steering and it survived. Will be changing over to all V8 stuff soon. On my 66 I just heated a couple spring coils red hot with a torch to relax and collapse the spring. Then it comes right out and into the garbage can. The new springs I got went right in without needing compressed. No spring compressor needed for removal or install.

That’s a pretty good idea with the torch! I was told the 6cyl rack would hit the oil pan :/ oh well I upgraded the brakes and spindles so I did the rest of the rack too. That’s upcoming in the next few episodes. Thanks for the tips, stay tuned I may need more haha!

@@LowBoostFilms And while I'm thinking of all that I have to keep in mind you will be using a 351. The original trans would need beefed up for that. With a stock 289/302 the original trans would be fine with just a V8 bell housing, torque converter, and reseal. If you do use the original trans pull the imput shaft out (easy slides right out) then test it's splines in the V8 torque converter you get.

Hey there. Thanks for the video. I was feeling pretty nervous when I saw you using the external spring compressor :-) - Also, the bottom of the spring should be further around, touching the tab on the perch. Cheers

I’ll be doing 4 wheel disk brakes, a rear end brace kit for coil overs, a 8.8 rear end with 4.10 gears, and a kit to use the front spindles etc from a foxbody/sn95

Question on the swap why didn’t you use the Mustang II kit? I’m wanting to do this exact swap on my 66 coupe was not sure if you could get away with just upgrading everything to v8 suspension parts. Always thought you had to do the crazy weld in kit along with the larger rear end. Your channel keeps me motivated to actually want to do my 302 and T-5 swap my mustang with a 200 inline 6 has currently been down for the past 4 months and I’ve been trying to save but also stay within a budget to upgrade the car. I feel like it deserves something bigger and better and I Just want to drive it again and enjoy the car not just look at it in the driveway 😂 any advice is appreciated love what you guys do.
@LowBoostFilms Жыл бұрын
No need to go crazy, if you just do the stuff we did it will work fine. If I upgraded, I’d get the whole k member with a real steering rack to get rid of the old. Steering box but other than that it’s fine.

Around minute 8 when you install the front shocks when you said jack it up can you clarify a bit ? Only because I am doing the similar build where I install the v8 springs but my shocks don’t reach the bottom saddle to screw it since the spring is decompressed/ expanded out.
@LowBoostFilms Жыл бұрын
Jacking it up helps compress everything making it easier to put it all on
