Here’s some video of the drivers side floor pan install. I also have the seat riser installed. Probably not the best video of doing this but it’s how I did it. Thanks for watching.

I have restored six classic Mustangs over the years. The big hole located between the frame rails on the front part of the floor pan. Once you have you floor pan in place and screwed down. You can put a threaded rod through the big hole with big flat washer and nut on the bottom and top. The hole goes all the way through the frame. You can squeeze the floor pan down to the frame this way. I use self-taping screws where they are needed. The Eastwood company makes a brush on seam sealer. If you grind the welds, use masking tape on top and below welds. Brush on the seam sealer between the masking tape, followed by spraying the sealer with Eastwood paint prep. If you have some rubber gloves you can smooth the sealer out with your fingers. Pull the masking tape and you have a straight paintable sealed seam. The Brush on seam sealer is designed to fill gaps too.

Just found your channel. Looks like we were both putting in floorpans at close the the same time. This brought back memories of my trials and tibulations.

Got a mustang once and the previous owner just laid floor pans over the rusted out floor and welded it in. I ended up using a Dynacorn full floor so I didn’t have to fix his laziness and I got all new firewall back w/o the headache of individual patches and rails. Food for thought, the full floors are a little costly (shop around, price can be as much as $1000 different). Keep up the good work, checking out your other videos

I’ll being doing this same repair, including front and rear frame rails. Been waiting on a guy to do the welding, but he is a one man shop, has other projects ahead of me. I’ve never weld, book and KZbin knowledge. Will give it a try.

Welding is not really to hard. Get a welder and practice before hand. Lots of welding videos on here. Thanks for watching and good luck 👍

Great video sir ! I use a miller 175 welder and I bought it used and I've been very happy with it. I weld lots of structural things like boat trailers and I'm planning to weld in some floor pans in the near future.

We did this same job over the summer. Used Mig w/Gas not flux core. Much better and cleaner. Also lots of weld thru primer. Also, that gap between the floor support from the trans side and the floor pan, we flanged about 6in of the floor pan edge along the transmission tunnel. The floor pan dropped in closer to that floor support.

What brand of Mig Welder do you have? I have my eye on a Mig/Tig unit from Eastwood.

Hey man!! I got a 67 mustang coupe and we’re about to start cutting the floors, we have to replace all frame rails and all the floors including the trunk. we still need to do patches on the tunnels and firewall. Any tips on how to go about replacing all floors and all frame rails at the same time?
@dubsgarage

You might consider replacing the entire floor section including the tunnel. It would be less welding involved. I think I would get the car up on jack stands and get it level by using the rockers to level from and take plenty of measurements. Weld in some cross braces inside the car to keep it from spreading outward when you remove the floor. Be aware some of the rear frame rails out there are not the same as OEM so purchase Dynacorn rails and floor pan. You’ll thank me later.

I recently bought a 65 mustang coupe for a really good price. I noticed that one section of the floor pan was replaced under passenger seat. It has lots of overlap on the the replacement panel to the original floor pan. The gaps kind of big and it appears some sort of ceiling caulking was used. I was thinking about cleaning it up and lap welding the whole thing out. Any thought you could share with me? Now that I have actually set it out loud it doesn't sound like that bad of an idea. Also it would give me a chance to fix the gap on the overlapping replacement pan and existing pan.

Sounds like a good plan. You definitely want to scrape off the caulking and use a good seam sealer. Weld both sides of the lap weld so water will not get in between the joints. Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the reply, after reading my original comment again I noticed that when I was talking about the gap on the joint it may have been confusing. So on the lap joint the "high low" has a gap, the overlap has lots of over lap and gap. I have a stick welder that runs 6010 pretty good and 7018 like water. I would think a wire feed with argon would work much better. The gas would prevent the spatter you were experiencing. I did a good amount of welding in my apprenticeship and anytime you add a shielding gas it makes everything a lot cleaner.

You definitely would be better off with wire feed and argon shield gas. It would be tough to stick weld it.

@@dubsgarage yeah my thoughts also. 7010 is pretty forgiving but not compared to dual shield. Thanks for the input!
