Hi Elin. I have just acquired a 1973 mk4 spitfire that needs bodywork repairs and have just discovered your great videos. So I will be working through this series on the gt6. I moved back to the UK from Bulgaria a year ago having lived there for 7 years. A beautiful country, we were near Borovets.

Good luck with your restoration! Yes, Bulgaria is a beautiful country, but the politicians are ruining it more and more every day.

@@RustyBeauties yes I agree, sadly.We first visited Bulgaria in 1990 and I thought then that it was a country with enormous potential. I still think the same, but so many young talented men and woman are leaving.

Hi Elin, Just started restoration of my 1969 mk2, just binge watched your MK3 rebuild up to part 74 could not find 75 but found this so interested to follow this one, as closer to mine. Hope to be able to see one to the finish. Love your real life approach and attitude. Keep up the good work.

From factory, the Mk1 and early Mk2 grille is indeed two halves riveted together in the middle, to a small steel tie piece. The flush rivets are original, the pop rivets with the little holes are not.

The 1 at the beginning of the chassis number (1KC….) means the car was assembled in Belgium which was common for various Triumph models sold on main land Europe. It unfortunately also means that British Motor Heritage won’t have exact details on it.

I am making a wooden buck for the triangular panel under the headlamp if you want to use it after me (or I could knock a pair out for you). Save money where you can. Also KC37xx was most likely made in 1966 but registered in the US in 1967. I have KC1259. Cars

Bloody ell, for how much was spent on fiberglass and time they could have purchased a second hand clip. They must have worked at a fiberglass company

GT6 Registry online shows entries for KC3758L and KC3832L as 1967 year. KC3799L is in the middle there somewhere, so 1967 year.

Anyone know about the "1" in front of the "KC"? I think for some Spitfires at least, the "1" in front of "FM" indicated a car built for continental Europe (non-UK) market?

I'm very happy to see how my bonnet is in very good Condition😉
@pda491843 жыл бұрын
Those bonnet repairs were definitely a bodge, but whoever did it, must have been quite artistic. Back in the 1960's we had to do the same , but not as well, as the cost of welders and welding would have eaten to far into our beer budgets.. I remember a friend having a 1967 GT-6 and it definitely had a dynamo, but no anti-rust rocker cover breather connected to the chassis (frame), ha-ha..
