I'm working my way through these videos of yours Mike - and they're a Master Class on how car restoration should be done. Where did you acquire your skills? What a fantastic job you're doing.. This series is now my "Go To" site to watch every day.

Hello Pip Thank you for the compliment Thats a lot of videos to watch!.. I am only a hobbyist when it comes to the cars.. I learned most of how cars work from Dad growing up. He was a genius but not so particular how they looked. Dad was and still is an incredibly talented artist. I've never worked in the automotive business professionally. My profession is cabinetry so most of the working with the hands carries over and also painting and finishing. I think anyone can do these things just need something to follow that explains in good detail. Thank you again and enjoy the series!

@@MikesRestorations Only a hobbyist?! You're too modest.. The incredible attention you pay to the smallest detail is what defines your work. This 911 of yours is going to emerge with a better than factory finish. There's a book waiting to be written here. Well done!

I'm watching all your videos on the 911 and must say you have an enormous amount of patience. I too love the 901 body style. How old is your dad and where did you get your experience with body and paint? Great job!

Hi Bangkok Thanks for the compliment I'm glad you're enjoying the videos Dad Is now 85 and going strong! he's getting excited to see some paint going on soon. My background with body work and paint is kind of a hybrid acquired. My career in cabinet making and working with shapes and finishes is probably where most of is crosses over and a little bit obsessed with cars=) The 911 is such a beautiful shape. Incredible complex curves and angles. Thanks staying tuned in =) its very inspiring

Hey Mike- I've got an overextended driver's side door on my '68. Any tips and tricks on how you bent it back into shape? Mine looks OK in the middle, but bent out at the top and bottom where it would first hit the A pillar. They are out about 3/8" like yours. Thanks!

Would love it if you had recorded doing the actual work of tapping and bending the metal.

Yes I sure should have.. Back in 2016 when I began the series I really didn't have much of any idea what I was doing or how I should proceed ..absolutely no idea..The early videos are just terrible but I keep them because they are part of the cars story. Getting more comfortable doing making them now but still have much to learn. Have you tried Tom over at Garagetime? He has quite a talent for sheet metal work!

I noticed that the fender buckets have the 4 tabs, which is appropriate for 1968s. Since this is a 67, are you planning on removing those tabs, to allow for 67 headlights? Or, are you using 68 headlights & chrome rings?
@MikesRestorations5 жыл бұрын
Hello Fg You have good eye for detail! Replacement headlight buckets from Porsche cover 65-85 kind of a one sized fits most years.. They tabs don't interfere with the installation of the early headlight trims. They are spot welded in place but could be ground off if necessary. I will be installing original trim rings. Also yes POR 15 was used on the inside of the pan and interior sheetmetal Dash and under dash was epoxy primer sanded with a satin 2K spray topcoat

Mike M Keep up the good work. I enjoy all the tips and ticks that you provide. The last two 912 that I've owned were 66 & 67, and each had at least one fender with the tabs bent back, so I figured that the reason was because they interfered with the earlier(correct) headlight & rings. But maybe they can be left as is(?), I don't know...

lost me the second time you said "Porsh"! One of the worst slams to a person is to mispronounce his/her name when you know better.
