Beauty job. Glad to hear you're doing so many different coatings to protect your time and money invested. Old Neil Young said it best "rust never sleeps". When these cars were new, and just after, they weren't known to be rusty. We had 71'Galaxies and the then new 73' Chevy C10s to laugh at. Holes so big you could put your head into the trunk/box, in the first few years no less. Great motors though. Those 428s were absolute torque hammers. When the Galaxies had rotted away(especially the police interceptors), out came the 428 and trans, then you dropped it into a Rustang or Cougar, where the 390 had been. We wuz reducing, re-using and recycling while the hippies were still dodging the draft, working on their third degree, not yet even thinking about wrecking the economy with a future green agenda. Pretty sure your 68' will outlast the Hyundai era. Can't wait to see the whole underside epoxied, sound deadened and undercoated. It's going to look great. Already does. Kudos Malcolm Ottawa Valley
What about the radiatersupport? Are you grinding the stamped holes with your welds? This stamped holes can be seen and don't look very nice.

How do you weld under the car and not get spatter from the heat? I never have a problem welding from the side or from above but whenever I'm under my car is seems like the same settings just doesn't work well. I get a lot of popping of the metal and way more prone to blowing out and turning into a hole, but I don't get as good penetration if I turn the welder down.
@rustbucketrestos65112 жыл бұрын
Try turning your gas pressure up slightly and make sure the surfaces are clean. Should do the trick for you.
@TheTorchred98852 жыл бұрын
Just out of curiosity when welding in the kit was any current flex or sag in the body taken into account ... I know the car is on a lift versus jack or jackstands just didn't know if there was any noticeable droop when the car was lifted prior to welding in the braces.. I'd hate to think that after all that work that there would be a permanent distortion to the substructure ... food for thought... otherwise fantastic work, looking forward to each video in all the builds on the channel keep up the good work!

It looks like we see light at the end of the tunnel, and it's not the headlamp of an oncoming train! I have been on board with this since the first episode because not only do I love '68 Chargers, I am equally enthusiastic about workmanship of the quality you are performing here. Having commended your efforts many times I won't belabor the point. Suffice to say, what you have done so far is exemplary. It seems sometimes that the whole human race is drowning in a sea of mediocrity and the "who gives a shit" attitude. Given that context, watching you build this car compares to a big lung full of fresh air after being locked in a dank stinky basement for a month. Again, very nicely done. I do have to mention one unrelated subject, and that is the music sound track for this video. Did you by any chance have anything to do with the production of this music? Are you by chance playing one of the instruments, perhaps the guitar? Is this possibly a jam with you and some of your compadres? These tracks are first rate, and I had to break out the old Stratocaster and play along with it because it rocks. Whoever this is, they're cookin' with gas! Build a '68 Charger with blues like this for a sound track? You can't get much more pure Americana than that! I am curious to know if you are also a musician, or perhaps an engineer or producer. If so, then let me say that those results are on a par with your car building skills. Quality of this level is a joy to see and hear. Best of luck and massive respect to you, sir!!!! Cheers!
@rustbucketrestos65112 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I get all my music from epidemic sound. It’s copyright free music. I have played guitar since I was a kid so I appreciate some clean riffs and mellow blues.
