@@guzzifabrication3448 I do have a question that no one seems to want to answer. I guess its a stupid question 😄 but the black primer that comes on the the panels, at what time do you remove it… if you do. And ., if so how do you get to the parts where its really hard to get to if you don’t remove before welding?
@guzzifabrication3448
@guzzifabrication3448 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffheinlein3103 The black is called an EDP coat, it's a great foundation, only remove as much as needed to prep the area then apply a thin coat of weld through primer in the spot to be welded , weld through primer is different in that it contains zinc, regular primers don't. Now there shouldn't be any bare metal sandwiched in between assembled parts. Check out some of the other videos in the Charger series and I show the prep, prime, welding steps in depth. Thanks for watching !

@@guzzifabrication3448 I use the weld primer now… I just didn’t know if the EDP was ok to apply base coat directly to it instead of a sealer primer. Thanks for replying, I will re…. review your videos.

I never understood when people would cut down the full length of a quarter down the body line and replace only the bottom section. The amount of welding and potential warping is extremely high. I get that the replacement panels aren’t perfect but I’d much rather spend the time forming them then spreading a large amount of filler down the entire length of the body that will inevitably crack. Doesn’t matter how good you are at preparing the surface, the flex of the body WILL fracture the filler. Take the extra time and do it correctly with good quality replacement items and you’ll be much more satisfied with the results. I restore trucks and can’t count how many times I’ve seen partial panel replacement failures even though they were coated in the rear.

AMD used to be the best Mopar replacement panels, but like everything I've noticed their quality go down..... It's pretty much a toss up now who offers quality parts.... luckily there is a summit racing nearby and a couple of other dealers locally and I can order, inspect, and pick up. I hate having things shipped and the shipping costs are outrageous.

I applied the primer to the backside ( didn't show in video ) then tape off only the joint and D A to metal, it just helps when spot priming the area after finish, another step I didn't show in this video is I will scratch with an awl the surface through the plug weld hole down to bear metal, that leaves primer around the edges of the plug weld hole.
