Well done, Ken. Tcheon Fung Sing is one of my favorites. Luxurious lather, and performance, at a bargain price. The Knack is still crazy after all these years.

The Gillette Knack is one of the most underappreciated DE razors IMHO. It's the razor I recommend to anyone who's just beginning their transition from cartridge shaving to wet shaving.

Ken, it seems like all of your vintage razors are in pristine condition...do you do a restoration on them before using in a video, or do you find them like that?

That was my very first razor, or it was called Super Slimtwist, I think. Bought it in London in 1978 along with an Old Spice soap ( bowl, red lid and all ) and a Ever Ready boar brush. Went back to my hotel room just to slice up my face. Got the hang of using the razor, all without any video tutorials. Remember that razor to be quite mild. Used to not close it all the way just to get it to be alittle bit more agressive. Have lost the track of the gear long ago.

Happy Sunday Ken! I missed two eBay auctions by mere minute myself since Friday. I love to bid in the last 15 seconds...most bidders don't react fast enough. However, you can get caught yourself if you don't bid high enough. Lots of fun...and addictive. I found a Knack razor at an estate sale. Dirt cheap...but I sold it to a vendor...now I wish I would have shaved once just to try. I sense you like to feel the aftershave burn...I had some of that Captain's Choice Cat of Nine Tail...I could feel the sting and then I got first degree burn...so you can say "Feel the burn" motto is real. Take care.

Big question... do you prefer the vintage razors or your futur? I've always shaved with vintage, but friends are telling me that I need to go futur. Would like some feedback before I invest.
@kensurfs7 жыл бұрын
Marc Bagwell I just sold my futur. I didn't like it as much as vintage or Merkur 34C
@marcbagwell61097 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. I guess some of us simply prefer an old time shave. I just had one of my Gillette fat boys re-plated in Rhodium. It's beautiful. It's 56 years old and still shaves as good as the day it was made. Gillette really knew how to make a razor back in the day.

Hey Ken, I too have an 830 brush. I love it, but have nothing to compair it to because I've never had the desire to get another brush. Are badger and syn brushes worth the money and how do they differ? Not sure if you've done a video explaining your likes between the different types of brushes. If not, it would love to hear what you have to say. I enjoy the polsilver blades as well. Keep the vids coming!

Nice shave and the soap looks gr8! I just sold my Gillette Knack a few weeks ago: I found it a bit too mild ;-) Now I only use one or two razors, both Merkur. My abs fav is the 47c: abs beautiful and made to be used wet! I also have an ATRA(somewhere in the 70's)and it's sterling silver from Reed&Barton. Used it alot in the day ;-) Enjoy your dinner!

I love my Knack. It's light, it glides and it doesn't clog like the multi blade razors that have cartridges that cost 5 bucks apiece. I'm using Indian made Gillette Wilkinson bonded blades that cost 10 cents each. It sucks that I can't bring them with me when I board a plane. Just wrap everyone up in bubble-wrap and let's get this over with already.

I still have few Gillette Atra blades and I bought a pack of Personna's made for the Atra. Amazon is selling some Gillette Atra's here: www.amazon.com/Gillette-Atra-Lubra-Strip-Cartridge/dp/B000JX6ECG/ As you can see here, the price was under $10 last March. I always use this site to set up my Amazon price alerts: camelcamelcamel.com/Gillette-Atra-Lubra-Strip-Cartridge/product/B000JX6ECG

I was just reading the Q&A for the Gillette Atra's on Amazon. As of 2014, they were made in China. You would think they would use the factory that's licensed in Russia to make all the DE blades for the Atra's. I wonder if the entire cartridge and blade is made in China or just the plastic. If that's the case, are those expensive Fusion cartridges made in China as well? I think the Personna Atra's generics are made in the USA.
