This is how I installed the outer wheel house on my 68 mustang coupe. Some fitment issues with the quarter panel.

I aquired my 68 coupe in 2012. It was only a matter of weeks before I found your channel. I have been referring back for the last 11 going on 12 years to learn and also validate things I've done. I've watched so many videos 5 times over or more. I'm still working on that same car in 2023. No longer a young man but I still get after it. Thanks Barry for all the hard work you put in. You're a valuable resource/teacher brother.

The joys of fitting aftermarket parts. You wonder what these companies are thinking of, to me the scope is to produce a presise copy of the origional panel, not something that is almost, but not there. Keep up the great work lots of attention to your videos from us guys in the UK. Dave,. London

Well, misery loves company as the saying goes. I have so many of the same issues with the full quarter, inner tail fin and tailpan on my 57Chevy. Nothing quite fits. Thanks for the inspiration to get on with it, although you would expect an $800 quarter panel to fit at least somewhat close.

Gotta say, that was looking like a huge green weenie there for a minute. Cutting those reliefs was an excellent way to dodge the bullet on the quarter panel to door dilema. Very informative, nice trick with those complicated angles.

Great video as usual, I really appreciate the lessons and have learned a lot here. Your constant fitment verification techniques came in handy last week as I thought that I had good fitment on my 73 Mach 1 trunk pan, I was off by about 3/8 inch, but good now after a little manipulation. Had the same "fighting" issues with the quarter and the trunk drop offs too. Thanks for everything and keep it up.

Just FYI...not sure if it was the idea I gave you but that same method for spraying INSIDE works inside the doors too...also behind the rear quarters...anywhere that is not easy to reach ...also , under the hood, in the channels - and the way to store POR 15 so you can re-open ? Use plastic wrap around the top and a rubber band...No metal lid needed

Great Video and very informative, you are my guiding star to tear into my 67. I need to replace the driver rear quarter and also what ever is discovered on the way in. I wonder if your existing quarters are from a 65-66 because the way the accents attach in the scoop area (dished area by the b pillar), I kind of wonder if that was what they could find or had on hand, so they made them work? they definitely weren't 67/68.
@JoDaddysGarage
@JoDaddysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
65/66 quarters would not even come close to fitting. I think they were generic panels stamped in the 80's.

Exactly what I needed, this video is gold. I need to do this same work, but on a 68 fastback. The way in which you worked with imperfections in aftermarket panels is definitely a lesson to lean on. I contemplated ordering a coupe fender to save a couple hundred bucks on the panel, cutting below that top corner body line, and then matching contour. However, I understand there's enough difference between coupe and fastback contours to make that a risky proposition. Thoughts on that? After all is said and done, what coatings do you put on the inner wheelhouses in those nooks and crannies where it meets the quarter?
@JoDaddysGarage
@JoDaddysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
I would go with the fastback quarter to be sure. I can't say if there are any real noticeable differences though. Typically, I will heavy spray self etch primer into the gaps. You can add seam sealer later to make it air tight.

how to did you separate the outer wheel housing from the inner. I know its rolled welded and I'm having a hard time figuring out how I'm going to do this. Thanks in adance
@JoDaddysGarage
@JoDaddysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure on this car. I did a video on the Mystique mustang. On that car I didn't actually separate them, I cut the flange off for the old outer, and just welded the new one to that piece. it's not that thick, and it was a lot easier.
