1969 Plymouth Road Runner A12 drag racing 1968 Chevy Camaro Super Sport 396
First car is a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner A12. Other is a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS. The Plymouth Road Runner A12 features a 440 V8 with 6 bbl carburetion. The Chevy Camaro has a L89 396. The Road Runner A12 was rated 390 horsepower, and the L89 Camaro 375 horsepower. Rear gearing for the Road Runner A12 is 4.10, and the Camaro Super Sport also has 4.10 gears. The Camaro SS396 features a 4-speed manual transmission, but the Road Runner has a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic. Weight for the Camaro (with driver) is 3450 pounds. The Road Runner is slightly heavier at 3784 pounds. The L89 engine featured in the Chevrolet Camaro SS was the 375 horsepower version (called the L78) with FACTORY aluminum heads. It featured a solid lifer cam, forged crank and rods, an aluminum intake manifold, 4-bolt mains, and a compression ratio of 11:1. The aluminum heads didn't add any horsepower, but they did remove around 70-80 pounds from the front of the car. Only 272 L89 Camaros were produced. The Plymouth Road Runner A12 was actually a mid year option for 1969 and was only produced for around 6 months with 1432 in total. It came with a fiberglass lift-off hood, 15 inch steel wheels, HD radiator, HD drum brakes, 440 V8, 6 barrel carburetion on an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, 426 Hemi oil pump, high load valve springs, and mandated the 3-speed windshield wiper option. Great cars!

Yea, awesome to see. The times these 2 cars ran are within a margin of driver error, with the Camaro being a manual transmission, it could have possibly had more potential with different shifting. The engine delivers next to the Road Runner, and a lighter weight car.

Steve C, the secret to traction with bias-ply tires is overinflate them a few psi. I know because I've done it many times. 1969 Boss 302 Mustang mid 12's consistently with 4:30 Detroit Locker rear gears. I bought the car new at TASCA Ford in RI and I still have it. I'll race it again this coming weekend using drag radial tires and I expect to see low 12's easily like it did Memorial Day Weekend 2021.

what happened to the commentaries. I have to do it myself now. When they first stopped I was.... it's ok. But missed them . But you have included extra content. And I like the extras. So I really don't which I like better.

This video works for me despite the "pure stock" misnomer. Nicely done. Vintage commercials are much appreciated. Surprising run by the old nail valve Buick (those were feisty motors).
