We're looking at a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner in Sunfire Yellow Paint. The car comes with the 383 CI V8 engine, and a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Ralph Barbagallo. Ralph’s had this car since 2014. He shares he enjoys finding the cars with rare options. Well this one has the rare Axle Performance Package option. Also Ralph has some unique treats in the trunk for us too. Also we’re taking the car for its first ride since it’s been restored.

I bought a new 1969 Roadrunner. It cost $2803. Payments were $83 a month for 3 years. It was Sunfire Yellow with tan vinyl top and interior. It was one helluva fun car. I only drove it usually on weekends or when my family was going out of town. In 1973 I only had 20,000 miles on it.

That is just a beautiful Road Runner! Sunfire Yellow is one of my favorite Mopar colors. My very first ride in a muscle car, was in a '69 Road Runner... around 1978. I was about 13 and an older friend that lived down the street from me, had a B5 blue 383 4 speed. After that ride, I was in love with Road Runner's, and have been ever since! Thanks Lou, and Ralph take good care of that Plymouth!

I enjoyed the color of the engine and the interior of this car the most. Ralph said it was a rare Road Runner package in that they built 50,000 of them. In the late 1960s, my brother and I saw a lot of Mopars. We walked through a Chrysler dealership every day from about 1968-1974. So, we saw many Chargers, Challengers, and Road Runners. It got tedious after a while. But seeing this one reminded me of what it was like to see one for the first time! The hub caps were what was really cool to have on your car at that time. They were not rare, though, everyone wanted them, and many people did.

Chrysler 4-speed shifters of this era presented challenges. The 2-3 shift at full throttle was an adventure into the unknown. If the shift was missed, a symphony of mechanical cacophony would assault the guilty miscreant's ears. This was true even when the cars were new. What an era.

When I got home from Vietnam in April of 1968, I went out to Tower Motors in San Diego and bought a new dark metallic green Roadrunner off the lot. It was a 383/4 speed car, 3:23 rear end and one option; an 8 track tape player radio. The shifter was a Hurst *unit from the factory. The cost was $2,900. The 426 Hemi option was $713 more. The car didn’t have carpet from the factory, just rubber matting throughout. I was not offered any promo goodie’s from the dealer,in fact, this is the first I’ve ever heard of those promo items. *the shifter with the lockout wasn’t standard. First time I’ve seen this too.

Memories. In 1983, I traded titles - my 1974 Chevelle Laguna S-3 for a friend of a friend’s 1968 Roadrunner 383. Copper Penny metallic with a black vinyl top. Sadly the kid’s dad didn’t approve and that deal was quashed. The ONE that got away. Sooo close! I believe I’d still have that car today. I remember the short time I had and drove this car. I remember spinning a good amount tread off the rear tires. Good stuff Lou!

I wrote this at the very beginning of the video and noticed you mentioned this AFTER writing.... Here is the rub against EV's. Just listen to this engine particularly on this video. Ah, the notes of wonderful consumption of petrochemicals that produces a symphony of excellence. Put that in your EV pipe and smoke them (and likely an EV owner is a vaper, argh!). Here we have a wonderful yellow Road Runner and Lou gives us a tour of its excellence in design and performance. What will be lost in the quick (and stupid) rush to EV's is that cars are supposed to be fun for all senses and not just straight line performers. Here we have ACTUAL DESIGN and wonderful detailing with controls that make sense to use and you don't have to get certified to be able to work on them. Thanks for sharing, Lou, and again you featured a winner!

Between the Road Runner, or the Super Bee, I can't decide which one I like best! Both cars were awesome, and this 68 Road Runner is no exception. The 383 engine sounds healthy, with the 4 speed manual transmission behind it, it adds to the performance. I like the plain and simple taxi cab interior, giving the car that muscle car atmosphere! As usual, another great Mopar from back in the day!

Had a 68 RR 383, put headers on it straight pipes with GTO resonators at the end of the exhaust, Installed 430 gears and a short Hurst shifter. Rebuilt carb, Installed a Mallory distributor and all associated parts. Installed 12" ripple Walls in the rear. Had it dynoed and was putting out 410 hp at the wheels. There wasn't a 440 around that could touch me and I beat most auto hemi's! Track times were in the low 12's.

Another great video Lou. The Roadrunner always seems like the best affordable muscle car when it was new. Never seen a Plymouth with those wheelcovers before. I thought they only had the dog dish hubcaps or the magnum 500 wheels.
