On "My Car Story" we're in Suburbs of Medford OR on 9-17-23.
We're looking at a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird in Alpine White Paint. The car comes with the 440 CI V8 engine and has an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Chris Lehuede. Chris’s had this car since 2003. Chris shares he was at an auction and noticed this car was “The Last Superbird Produced”. He also noticed the car was not advertised as that, and the car was going across the auction block very late and many people bidding had already left. Well you can see he won the bid on this car, so let’s go for a ride!
If you’d like to see his full car collection, here is the link • Special Garage ! Chris...
ENJOY!

Thanks a million for sharing Lou! We had a friend of the family down here in SW Florida who was an airline pilot. Herbert “Bud” Ambler bought one of the 1st Superbirds sold in this area. It was bought new by him at Campbell Chrysler Plymouth Venice Florida. My uncle was the selling dealer. It was in fact the same alpine white with black trim and had the 440 engine. He also owned a 67 GTX Hemi convertible. Thanks again for sharing.

Wow, the last Superbird ! What an icon! It is still funny to think that these were not only hard sells new but even when Chris bought it 22 years ago, it was not in high demand. This is a great example and beautifully presented. Thanks Lou and Chris for letting us see this classic.

But how good this 1970 Plymouth Superbird looked in the sun, with that Alpine White and its black roof; As if she were an elegant bird! In addition to the premise of being one of the last built! Its design, with that wedge-shaped beak and the huge characteristic spoiler (by the way, signed by the great racer Richard Petty), show us that this is a high-speed bird on the slopes! Excellent black interior combination; with those elegant sports-style seats and a simple, but beautiful, instrument panel, along with the wooden automatic lever. The roar of its large 440 V8, and its horn imitating the famous Road Runner, will make anyone smile! The final shots were excellent (without forgetting to have activated its striking retractable headlights) with this last great bird traveling the roads! As always, bringing great cars to the channel, Lou!

I was a sophomore in high school when this came out. We guys were just floored by these cars, especially since they didn't have a front bumper. Lou, wasn't this the same period that Ford brought out that specially modified Torino for stock car requirements with the flat grille on the front, etc.? Kids today would have trouble believing that back then the manufacturers could just style whatever and however they wanted for the public. Kudos to this gentleman for preserving this piece of our history, and thank you for publicizing it, best wishes from Texas.

Another beautiful car Lou. I mean wow the last Superbird to roll off the assembly line. I was wondering if it would be loaded up with options when I first started the video. I had a buddy who's dad almost bought one brand new but his dad told me that the Superbird was like $1,200 more than the Roadrunner that he was looking at, he ended up buying the Roadrunner for money reasons but they ended up with a Vitamin C Orange 70 Roadrunner hardtop with a 440 6 barrel and automatic which they still own.

Thanks, Lou & all.. Winged Cars, are something unique. Interestingly , with my CAr hunting before Graduation Purdue ( PHARMACY 70), I seen Superbird in Spring 1970 , in downtown Lafayette Indiana & not at all appealing *(oddly the Ford Dealer ,NOT let me take home BOSS 4/speed for testing) as : to long for parking, drama, & big Wing, etc. I did overnight test a DART S*SPECIAL 340/4 Door, all green/ Pursuit (??): that was really a great Performance build. We held off until buying a new , 03/70 build (*$3100.00 delivered) 70:CORONET 500/ loaded in late Summer 1970, etc.

I am fairly certain my friend Steve Battaglia from Buffalo, NY owned this car between the early 80's until the fall of 1995 when he sold it at Carlisle. After he sold the car, he was later informed that it was the last Superbird ever produce. If it is indeed the car, I had the wing signed by Richard Petty at an indoor TQ midget kart race during the winter of 1994 at the old Niagara Falls convention center, which is now the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, NY. I have a photo of the wing after it was signed and it certainly looks identical to the signature on this wing. Furthermore all of the specification of this car match his identically. I wish I could post a photo of the wing after I had it signed, however I do not know how to do it.

Back in the 70's and into the early 80's, there was a guy that lived in my neighborhood that had an factory original, white Superbird just like this one. But his was hopped-up to the MAX! The engine was not stock! And just before sunset almost every Sunday (weather permitting) I'd hear him fire his Superbird up for his Sunday afternoon ride around the neighborhood. And as he slowly chugged passed by my house that engine would rattle the windows, lol. Something I too had been accused of back in the day in my super hopped-up, 1963' Chevy Impala SS. Ahhh, those were the days! 🙂 🙂 🙂

First time I saw a Superbird I thought it was the ugliest car I'd ever seen. And I still think so. But respect for all the MOPAR people and thank you Lou for another blast from the past!

Hmmm. Last factory produced seems incorrect since the factory only produced base cars and they were then sent out to an aftermarket shop for the nose and tail. Technically none of them were factory produced. Nice try Lou. A beautiful and special car none the less.

Hmmm, based on the VIN number this would be the last one :-)

@@loucostabile I’m sure it was the last one produced that got made into a super bird, but the factory didn’t produce any super birds. They were modified outside the factory. Therefore it can’t be the last factory produced since the factory produced zero of them.

Fake, clone, or it's had its fenders replaced. It's missing the holes for the fender vents.

Hi Trex1268, Pretty sure the actual NASCAR's had the holes under the fender scoop, however the factory street cars did not. There are MANY Superbirds on the Channel (and Richard Petty's too) to look at, and I'm not sure one of my videos discusses that. Maybe a Viewer with knowledge can share, Lou
