Original NBC Broadcast (CBC-Canada) with Curt Gowdy, Harry Caray , and Tony Kubek from Busch Memorial Stadium with the series tied at 3 game each the final deciding Game 7 of the 1968 World Series in B&W Kinescope, Recorded and Digitalized off a Pre-recorded DVD discs and a commercial VHS of the MLB 1968 World Series film, which follows Game 7 and has been recently restored /remastered.
The climactic Game 7 matched the well-rested Bob Gibson against Mickey Lolich, working on just two days rest. They matched shutout innings until the top of the seventh. After two men were out, Kaline and Norm Cash singled. Northrup followed with a long fly to center field, where defensive standout Curt Flood misjudged the ball. Northrup got a triple, both runners scoring. Bill Freehan then doubled in Northrup. Both clubs scored a single run in the ninth to make the final Detroit 4, St. Louis 1 Lolich racking up his third World Series victory. Mickey Lolich with the complete game, and an undefeated 'win 68 Series (3-0) giving up only 1 run on just 5 Cardinal hits while striking out 4 and walking 1. while Bob Gibson also pitches a solid complete game, and the misjudged fly ball from CF Curt Flood in the 7th proved costly, as Detroit scores 3 runs, Gibson with the loss (2-1) gives up 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 1.
Complete with Post Game celebration and interviews and includes NBC Huntley Brinkley Report segments from 10/2 and 10/10 with Chet Huntley reporting from New York, and David Brinkley from Washington.

The last moment of pure baseball. Two leagues. Only the best of each in a Game 7. Never again to happen.

With due respect, the 4 Divisional winners, 2 in each league was still great for the game. It wasn't until they began adding WC teams that they diminished the excitement of a Pennant race. The final day of 1993 with the Giants and Braves both beginning the day with 103 wins was the last day of a pure Pennant race.

A pretty young girl named Donna Freeman of Midland, Michigan was killed in an auto accident less than two weeks after this game. Sad to think how alive and thriving she was as this game was played.

Thanks so much for curating and uploading these games. I remember the spirit in that fall, as I was 16 years old, going to school in Saginaw, but didn't have time to watch the whole thing. Now I can check it out as time permits, play it over, whatever I want. It's great to finally reach that condition.

I’d like to thank you for uploading everything that you do. I’m a Mets fans born in 1978, and have a great appreciation of baseball history. I love watching every game of a series to see how it all unfolds, all the twists and turns and trends. Thanks to you I’ve now seen all of the 1965, 1968, and 1970 World Series in addition to seeing the 1969 Series elsewhere. It’s so interesting to me to see how the game was played then- seeing pitchers go 9 innings, then do it again on two days rest. There were few pitching changes, no big time closers looming in the 9th inning, no obsessions with pitch count, no double switches that I can recall, few substitutions like pinch hitters, pinch runners, defensive replacements. The crowds are so quiet, no raucous noise, the announcers are subdued, like a regular season game in June. There is very little analysis, just reporting straight facts. Very enjoyable overall and I thank you again.

So great that they had instant replay by 1968. That was always much desired. Probably even more for football.

My dad was Air Force, so we moved all around the country during my youth. But we did spend four years in Michigan while I was in second through sixth grades, where I developed by sports allegiances. I loved the Red Wings, Pistons, Lions and Tigers. We had moved to New Mexico in August of 1968, but I watched every minute of this World Series. After the Red Wings had failed in a couple of recent NHL championship series, this was ultimate redemption.

Gibson retired 20 of the first 21 batters. Then Cash hit a soft liner to right, followed by a seeing eye single to left by Horton. Then disaster struck as Northrup hit a laser to center where Flood slipped in the muddy outfield and tripped trying to recover. Northrup ends up with a 2 run Triple. Game over. The Cardinals could not get to Lolich until Shannon’s solo HR with 2 out in the 9th. 4-1 Tigers.

Gibson was almost untouchable until there were 2 outs in the 7th inning. It all slipped through his fingers in 3 consecutive pitches. Freehan's double was just the icing on the cake that made it 3-0.

With that ending the Tigers out scored the Cardinals 22 to 5 to finish the World Series in games 5, 6, and 7. That’s all she wrote.

Unfortunately the game was not preserved by nbc or mlb and no one has come forward with a copy. The tv audio does exist for 6/7 games of the ‘67 series and can be found via a KZbin search. The only reason the ‘65 and ‘68 series games exist are because the CBC made kinescopes of these games (Minnesota bordering Ontario/Manitoba and Detroit bordering Windsor, Ontario).

It is interesting to note that in the first inning Javier of the Cardinals hit a drive to center field in which Northrop stumbled for a moment before making the catch. This seems to be similar to what happened in the seventh inning when Flood stumbled but could not recover fast enough to handle a drive hit by Northrop which wound up winning the game and World Series for the Tigers.

If the Tigers hadn't had that quick burst of three runs in the Eighth, it might've gone to extra innings. Wow, that would've been something to see.

A complete game six hitter in game 2 after McLain lost game 1 as well as hitting his first career home run. Gives up three runs in the first inning of game 5 but hangs in there throwing a complete game with around 150 pitches and gets a single to start the game winning rally in the seventh inning. Pitches on two days and out duels the best pitcher in baseball while picking off two of the best base runners in the game. That’s a World Series MVP,Mickey Lolich.
