When Hurst hung up his boots, he went home, looked at his bank account & signed on the dole, Geoff 'World Cup Winner' Hurst, a disgrace, tho he should have looked after his money such as it was. He did manage Chelsea for a bit but got a ordinary job as an knock knock insurance salesman. Imagine that, when you open your door to tell him to.. & it's Geoff Hurst! He worked at it & made a good career.

I remember "Match of the 70s " and Emlyn Hughes talking about when Don Revie took charge of England. The first words (according to Emlyn) when Revie turned up on the training field was...I've squared it with the FA,you'll get more money. Apparently Hughes and some of the England players (at least thought) 'oh,no'. Like playing for your country wasn't enough?!

I was at this game as a 13 Yr old standing in the South Bank. I remember it quite well. Martin Peters wanted a transfer to Spurs around this time and I think Greenwood was blocking it. It wasn't to be until the following March when they did a swap with Greavsie plus a couple of hundred thousand..... however... Spurs got a corner in the second half before Pearce scored... I was right beind the goal. The corner came over and no word of a lie, Peters headed it and it was going into his own net when Bobby Moore leapt up and cleared it off the line! I've always wondered whether Martin Peters did that on purpose 😅😅 cos he wanted to be a 🥔 COYI ⚒️⚒️⚒️

As ac12 year old so was I!! In the southbank too! We were down at the front leaning on the railings. I was a Spurs supporter but my mates were west ham. I got so excited I threw up my nans egg on toast! Later on, aged 15 onwards, we all stood in the northbank. We were a crew who went to White Hart Lane v hammers too. Halcyon days!

Colour cameras were still quite new technology & expensive compared to bw which thus still ruled on football coverage but come 71 most matches were in colour, but 95% of homes could only afford bw & we weren't that bothered as it was part of our lives & I still miss old telly's.

Must have been a 'part colour' test transmission. London Weekend, ATV, Granada and Yorkshire all went colour on Saturday 15th November that year, with Thames (the weekday London franchise) joining in from Monday the 17th.

I noticed a couple of the opening clips had some breakthrough colour aswell. However it's tempered by the fact the recording is on low band videotape so it's washed out.
