"Everyone says" you need fuel injection, electronic ignition and a mini-starter to have a reliable Mopar. I say they are full of sh*t.

That thing purrs like a damn kitten! It goes to show that a carbureted car can start reliably in the cold as long as it's tuned correctly.

In the mid 1980s, I had a 1972 Dodge Dart with a slant 6 and point and condenser. I used to work at a restaurant at the time. One night it was 0 degrees F when we closed. My boss had a 1984 Mercury Lynx which was finally running well after 10 minutes of constant attention. My Dart? Two primes and it fired right up as if it was a 70 degree day.

I love the attention to detail that you focus on these cars.....this is gonna make someone an awesome driver.

The starter sounded like Dino on the Flintstones. And then the engine came alive. A 55 year old car fired right up in 10° weather! Those Mopar A-bodies are unstoppable.

I bought a 82 g20 van a few months back and used your videos to get the quadrajet back to specs. I'm in north Alabama and it was 11 degrees here 2 pumps and she started right up. I'm glad someone still likes the factory carbs as much as I do.

You're lucky, you have more snow than we have in Michigan. My dad use to put a trouble light with a 100 watt bulb under the hood of his company cars in the bitter cold days of winter. Most of his carbureted cars were Plymouth's or Dodge's, with the slant six. When it would get below -10ºF his slant six would not crank fast enough to start unless that trouble light was under the hood. He would place the light near the battery.

Very nice, I wouldn't expect anything less. I got the cold temperature, but very little precipitation. I have a nice 10 degree cold start with my '81 Silverado, going live tomorrow, showing how bad a Rochester Quadrajet is in the cold!

I've owned several Rochester quadrajet carb equipment vehicles and all but 2 of them would start right up after 3 maybe 4 pumps of the accelerator pedal in like 7 degrees in northeastern indiana so i really can't come the two that didn't start easy was the e4mc computer feedback Rochester quadrajet carb on my gm medium metallic grey with a bright red pinstripe 86 Buick Regal Factory V8 Sport Coupe with factory rear sway bar and heavy duty front sway bar,Oldsmobile roller cam 307 V8 the tps sensor connector was cracked and would let water in, and the faded red and black pinstripe 82 Chevy k20 Silverado had a junkyard 83 Rochester quadrajet carb and the throttle shaft needed bushings it whistled at idle..

I don't miss the old cars with carburetors...modern EFI starts every time no matter what the weather. I once had a car like this one but it had the unexciting but reliable 225 Slant Six. I sold it in the spring of 1974 and got a new Dart Custom with the 318 V8. The quality control on that car was horrible and since 1981 I have owned only two Toyotas and a Honda which I still have after 19 years.

Hey Tyler I got a question idea here. I have a 87 Grand Fury and the manual was telling me it only had one throttle cable and return instead of two. I was wondering if you were aware of that and if you would add another?

Awesome, but adjust the choke pull off. It's running way too rich for the first minute or two.
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage4 ай бұрын
I've actually adjusted it a few times. It only does that when it's super cold.
