Only person I have ever seen use the folk art cheap acrylic craft paints that are .50-1.50 a bottle and make the paint job look like it was model paint or real paint for modeling awesome man I'll have to try it out

@@TI4438 If I recall the decals did fight a little due to their length, especially the front fender decals. I just made sure that the surface remained wet so that I could maneuver them into place. Long decals are always a pain. That's why I don't do NASCAR kits... Did you get it into place?

@@petesmodelcarcustoms584 That would be an interesting experiment. I haven't seen the Polar Lights edition of this kit but it would be cool to test this out and see how they fit together. I have read that some guys have swapped the chassis from a different kit (I don't remember which one) and it fit better than the one that it came with. Either way, I just try to figure out how to build it with what comes in the box. Sometimes, it is a real challenge and that makes it fun.

Got this as part of a three car model set that also included a Plymouth Barracuda and a Hurst Oldsmobile 4-4-2. The front wheel pins were way too small and it remained on display for a week before I scrapped it. I'd love to give it another try since I like the look of the car overall.

Very nice! I had one of those BITD. It was dark green with gold stripes and I put a 351 Boss engine and 4-speed out of a wrecked 71 Torino in it. About the time I got it all fixed up and looking good, my idiot brother wrecked it. Made me wonder if the engine and trans were cursed. I gave up on it and sold the remaining pieces to a guy I didn't like... J/K!

This is the 3rd of you're builds I've seen and you seem to be in favor of Bare Metal Foil. You make them come out great. Do the decals for the sides come in different colors? I have 2 in my stash along with the 3 car kit from way back. Now I know what to look out for when I do mine. I'm didn't use to be a big Ford fan. A neighbor friend who lived around the corner, his dad bought one of these in '69 it was white w/ red interior and red markings on the sides and I did like that car. Then my older brother had a '67 Mustang coupe and my younger brother got a '69 Mustang Boss. Oh yeah, I figured I'd subscribe 😉.

Thank You for the Sub! I really like Bare Metal Foil and I use it on almost every build that I do. I think that it looks better than painting the "chrome" parts of a car/truck. As far as the stripes in this particular kit, they only come in black or white as I showed during the intro part of my video. There might be someone that can print or maybe has some red stripes from an earlier version of this kit. I do have a couple of 1968 and 1969 Mustangs on the shelf from a Flea Market haul I did last summer. I have been wanting to get those up on the channel but the muse hasn't hit me yet on those. Stay tuned, they're coming eventually. Thanks for watching!

What do you use to thin the acrylics your spraying and what ratio do you mix-?
@scaleautoguysworkbench
@scaleautoguysworkbench Жыл бұрын
I have used a few different "thinners" over the years. I have used ModelMaster Acrylic Paint Thinner (a little on the expensive side), Delta Ceramcoat acrylic thinner (no longer available) and plain old Distilled water. I haven't tried windshield washer fluid but some guys swear by it. I don't really measure my ratios per se but if I did it would be close to 60/40 depending on the acrylic paint. Some are thick and others are thin right out of the bottle. So my best advice is to slowly add whatever medium your using to thin with until the mixture has the consistency of milk. Then mix well and let it stand for a minute or two before spraying.
@timryan1785
@timryan1785 Жыл бұрын
@@scaleautoguysworkbench I tried the windshield washer fluid one time, only time I've tried to spray the craft acrylics. Didn't work out, my guess I had it too thin, but I'll try it again once the weather warms up again. Thanks for the reply!!

@scaleautoguysworkbench
@scaleautoguysworkbench 2 жыл бұрын
I use acrylic craft paint almost exclusively on my builds. I have been burned one to many times by spray cans. I also try to do everything on a tight budget. One of those 2 ounce bottles lasts a long time and they come in a plethora of colors. I thin my paint with ModelMaster acrylic thinner. I don't measure the ratio per se but I look for the paint to be the consistency of milk before I start and I spray at about 30 psi.

I hate amt kits but they do have cool variety of stuff, they have been using the same tooling for last 50 plus years and tons and tons of flashing on some kits you can't even make out what a part is supposed to be because the flashing is so heavy
@scaleautoguysworkbench

I am beginning to dislike AMT kits as well. Unfortunately, they almost have the lions share of the market. They also have a lot of interesting kits out there. The quality of the kits really went down hill shortly after their processes moved to China. Maybe that's the issue? Either way they may want to step up their game. Just because they are such a large producer of model kits doesn't mean that they can't fail. Take Sears and Kmart as an example.

Yes, It's sad that they have so many cool kits but their quality, as of late, has been a dumpster fire. You never know from one kit to another if you're getting a great kit or a twist piece of crap. Fortunately, the majority of my collection are older AMT kits that didn't have as many problems. Seems like they went down hill as soon as they shipped production to China.

Thanks for watching! Yes this kit has some quirks, I'll give you that. This is not a kit that can be thrown together in a rush. It requires a lot of test fitting and adjustments. I try to point out trouble areas as I go along. Though not all of these kits are going to have the same problems. I would suggest setting aside for a bit (a day, a week or so) and come back to it. Good Luck!
