Thanks so much!! This was my first Grand Prix, two months after Woodstock. It's when I fell in love with the sport, and look how close you could get--right up to the fence in the infield. When Graham Hill flipped and was thrown 150 feet from his car (thank goodness he just broke his legs, his car was right there, upside down, to inspect at your leisure. Unimaginable now. And then there was the Bog.

The amount of passion and time invested in this labor of love cannot be measured. This film is an enormous achievement and legacy your father has left to the motorsports community. Thank you for posting what is obviously a cinematic treasure.

+Joe Tierno I agree. I would have been happy with merely seeing the cars at racing speeds, but everything else that made it into this video satisfies a huge craving for F1 history.

Thanks for posting this. I have fond memories of a summer weekend going to the races with the family. My Dad built a platform that mounted onto cartop carriers that went onto our 65 impala, and my mom and dad would sit up there in folding chairs while my sister and I played on the hood!

Wow! Thanks for putting this up! I was there in '69. Also attended '68. '70 and '71 F1 races there. Plus other non-F1 races. Since then, I have done many laps at The Glen in my own cars (mostly vintage). It's a great track. For examples of my (more recent) videos at The Glen, search "aeronca65t watkins glen"

The front stretch was, back then, what is now the short straight following Turn 1 before you get to the Esses. I don't think any of the original stands exist nor the old pit area which appears in other videos to be short/tight etc. The pit road entrance was a 90 deg right hand turn it shows in other videos. Good thing they upgraded the circuit, but neat to see what it first looked like.

Graham Hill couldn't seem to get the car and his talent to run early in the race; he seemed out of sorts. Bruce, after his wreck, walked right by me. I was surprised how short he was having never seen him close up. It was cold and I slept in the back of the 180D with not enough covers from the dorm beds at RIT to stay warm. My first GP and worth it. I saw Andretti at MAR and I was no surprised that he had a reputation for being hard on the mechanicals.

Jochen was the greatest F2 driver of all time, totally dominant in F2 feom 1966-1970 only Clark in 1967 ❤and Stewart in 1969 even approaching Ridnt in those light 200 hp F2 cars but in F1❤I do not believe Jochen was ever in the top 5 in real speed or agression in real overall ❤quality Stewart and Surtees were far the best drivers even in 1❤970. Rodriquez was the true Senna of 1967-1971 and Ridnt nothing in comparison. What Ridnt actually achieved in ❤1969 would have been achieved by Jackie Oliver.I mean 4th ❤at Silverstone , 2nd at Monza 1❤st at the old 2 mile Watkins ❤Glen ❤s driving school 2 mile nothing circuit in Denny Hulmes view were anybody could win. Ridnt did not impress at all on the driverd circuits of Clermont and Nurburgring and in the pre season Tasman series Ridnt was badly besten in straight duels at Pukekohe and Sandown The previous year Clark in an unsuitable bitsa Lotus 49 managed to beat Amon decisively at Pukekihe, Warwicks Farm and Sandown. In 1969 Tasman , Ridnt was driving Hills 1969F1Championship winning 49bt a much better car whichhe failed to win in wxcept at Wigram and Warwicks farm were Courage took his serious rivals off on lap one. There is no doubt Ridnt was the most spectacular F1 driver ever seen in NZ abd Australia and was the ild F1 driver in 1950-1970 era other than Brabham to impress the Aussies

It's pronounced Yawken (Jochen), not how you pronounced it. He only won the race.
