PSU 45, Navy 22 - Apologies for non description. I"m in the middle of a interstate relocation, so I'm neck deep in boxes.

Thanks for posting! Navy's linemen were way undersized due to many recruiting restrictions back then. My brother, reserve sophomore Mick Barr, Navy #25, caught 7 passes in 2nd half and was a starter rest of year and next. He said PSU's Dennis Onkotz was hardest hitter he faced.

The OL did well for their size. Especially on pass blocking.

That second Navy TD play was executed perfectly. The camera angle was perfect.

The less than 25 yard punts by navy were as bad as turning the ball over anyway.

For Penn State-- nr. 22 was Chuck Burkhart, nr. 68 was Mike Reid, and nr. 76 was Steve Smear. I think nr. 26 was Charlie Pittman. I know Franco and Lydell were in the backfield, I don't know their numbers. Also playing were Neil Smith, Mike Smith, Dennis Onkotz, Jack Ham, Don Abbey, and I think paul Jackson.

They're physically bigger than Navy. Navy hit hard, though, and a lot of gang tackling by them.

I remember this game Thanks for posting classic games for old farts like me, haha. Can you post the 1964 game where we crushed Ohio State 27-0? That's probably my favorite game of all time.

Texas beat Navy in 1969, 56-17. And the Texas reserves were in the game by the middle of the 2nd quarter. Just for those who would want to compare Texas to Penn State in 1969, since they never played.

Notre Dame tied USC in 1969, and USC was the only other undefeated team besides Texas and Penn State. Texas 3 TDs against Notre Dame in the 1970 Cotton Bowl were by 3 drives of 76+ yards. The second drive was all running plays. That drive was 18 plays and consumed 8 minutes on the clock. Texas looked damn good in this game. In fact, Texas had a harder time against both Oklahoma and Arkansas than Notre Dame. And Texas looked better than Penn State in their lack luster win over Missouri..

You do know that the Texas 1st sting usually didn't play much past the first half (sometimes out by the 2nd Quarter,) and by then they had blown away the other team, eh? If Texas' beating the Theismann-lead Fighting Irish the way that they did, a team which had tied undefeated USC is not good enough for you to establish how good Texas was, well I can't help you. Best teams in 1969. Texas, Penn State, USC, Ohio State, Notre Dame. Any of these teams could beat each other on any given day. If you say otherwise, you're on a special agenda driven tear.

Don't get me wrong. I was never a Nixon supporter. And I actually did like Joe Paterno -- great coach! Great career! But he did end his career in disgrace. He probably knew about Sandusky's sexual abuse, and did nothing.

:-) I don't admit defeat. And I would be totally willing to accept an explanation of the Sandusky affair that exonerates Paterno. Like I said, I like the man.

I just expressed regret at how Paterno, a great coach, ended his career. And like I said, I'll happily accept any evidence that clears him.

"Name" schools refused to schedule PS. And give the past a break here, you sinless wonder.

Texas, Pitt, and ND all played Navy that year. All the big schools padded their record and stats against teams like Navy then and they’re still doing it today. Just look at the worthy opponents Michigan has to face without their suspended HC for the first 4 games of the season.
