That’s interesting. The spare tire hold down is over the right frame rail. A convertible thing apparently. On a hard roofed car it’s over the rear end hump under the Dutch panel.

I do a lot of sheet metal repair on older vehicles dealing with spot welds. Consider buying a mini air belt sander 1/2" x 18". A 60 or 80 grit belt will reach those tight spots and cut the top of the weld down and out crazy fast saving time and the customer billable hours. We also do large van panels and the belt sander is the go to method.

There was something oddly soothing watching you prep the trunk panel, with the Satellite sitting right outside the garage door, kids playing in the driveway, and mountains off in the background. The only way to make that scene better is if neighboring houses had their garage doors open with people working on muscle cars inside too! I chuckled a bit when the little girl made off with your garage stool. 🤣

I remember when we did my Satellite trunk, the factory pan was over an inch away from the passenger wheel tub and the factory just bridged it with a bunch of seam sealer.

It's amazing how crudely some of these were put together. Huge tolerances!

Very good work. It's amazing what they did from the factory on some cars. I have a cop car fox body and they used spot welds and wire welds and rivets to add the seat reenforcment plates.

Took about 27 hours to knock it out. Still have brackets & tail panel parts to weld on.

At work the respirator fitting nurses always told us a respirator is useless if you have facial hair. Dust probably OK, but solvents, burning out lead, welding fumes etc... probably no good.
