We had cars like this ALL over Ft Benning in '70...there were car dealers 5 minutes away who's motto was "You get the money, we get you the car...any car, any where. Somebody should write a book about that.. My platoon sergeant bought a '69 Road Runner that looked just like this...He had me take to gas it it up once...you didn't start that thing,,you let it out of the cage...

I only wish today's young car guys could have experienced those days. All the top muscle cars nowadays at the car shows, museums, and the big auctions were all over the roads back then. As a nineteen year old I owned a Superbird with a 440-6V, and built a Hemi for it; my friend had a beautiful A-12 Roadrunner exactly like this, another friend had a spotless '69 Hurst Olds... it goes on and on and on. And it was exactly as Nick put it - those cars didn't hold your hand as you went down the street. You had to truly drive them and know how to listen, feel, and handle the power, along with the steering and braking (or lack thereof!). A very special time.

Man this car is bringing back a lot of memories! I met a guy in high school who drove one. He needed a stereo installed. I told him I'd do it for a ride in the car and a six pack. We became good friends and I got to ride shotgun in that car for years. What a car :-) My other favorite car is the 55 Chevy BelAir. Thanks Nick. This is the best place to see great cars !

That is a beautiful car in a beautiful color. I love the bare-bones, unapologetic look of muscle, too. Those plain steel rims set the tone - no need to knock hubcaps off at the track. Of all the 'special' cars by Chrysler, including the wing cars, these A-12 cars are the best Muscle packages for everyday use. Just don't park somewhere and put the hood on top of the car on a windy day.

Nowadays bucket seats are standard and commonplace. It's nice to see the old bench seat cars now. I always preferred the bench seats. I guess that's just I was used to growing up and what my first car had. Had a couple modern cars with bucket seats (and still do) and, well, they are what they are. I like the bench seats in my trucks and my cars. Yes, good memories when you could drive with your girl right beside you.

The Chrysler A12 option package was a mid-year introduction that was available for the Plymouth Road Runner and Dodge Super Bee. The A12 cars were powered by the high-performance 440 engine that was fed by three Holley two-barrel carburetors. The option included a Dana 60 rear with 4.10 gears with Sure-Grip for both automatic and stick cars. Cooling was upgraded with a 26-inch radiator. The 440 6-BBL engine in the 1969-1/2 A12 cars came with a forged-steel crankshaft, forged-steel rods, 10.5:1 compression ratio, aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, and three Holley 2300 two-barrel carburetors.

Nick! Ya killing me with that car! It was about a week ago, when you had that "Plumb crazy Purple" R/R in your shop and I said- "That car would have suited me just fine" because I was looking for hemi orange (with a HEMI) 69' Road Runner back then. King Richard was my idol back then and he drove a blue Road Runner. But I found my 72' Charger, in hemi orange (With it's HEMI missing!) DANG IT. Such is fate. But that one Is gorgeous!!! The few flaws on it are minor. It's got every option it should have had. I just enlarged the side on picture your guy just shot and it's on my computer forever. I just Have to say it- The way of the muscle car will never die. T.

@@NicksGarage I drove my 72' with a 472, 6 pack. It's block came out of a mobile home. I drove it for 11 years and sold it because it was to powerful for us and my kids. When I first found it, it was a HEMI car but the moron riped out the HEMI and went racing with it. I looked for that guy for years but I wasn't able to find him. It was 19 years after I built the Charger that i found its original engine. It's bell housing was cracked and its driver's side had a huge crack on it. It's heads were missing. So it was pointless, the guy I sold the Charger to sold it. I hadn't seen it for another 40 years when a teenage girl bought it and was able to look me up from the info that I stamped on the block all those years ago. Out of my Dad's garage came another 440/472 that was meant for his Imperial. I sold it to the girl and gave advise on how to put the Charger back together again. 48 years later it runs AGAIN! RUN 440. That's why you ware that shirt Nick.

Modern cars are produced for strictly profit purposes but it wasn't always that way cars used to be produced by companies to appeal to a certain customer base they had style grace and body lines but that all ended in the late eighties early nineties since then it's just been a free for all now they just produce whatever they want and don't give a dam what anything looks like because people just buy them and don't care themselves there's no customer base to appeal to anymore

My 69 Road Runner had the 383 magnum engine, bigger valves, and four speed with 3.23 rear axle sure grip. It didn't seem to me like it was turning on to full potential. I took it to a shop where the owner had been a racer. He took the distributor out and put in on a Sun machine. When he opened it he found out it had dual points. He changed weights and springs and adjusted the vacuum advance. He put it back in the engine and ran it awhile, decided it was running lean and changed the jets in the carb . I took it for a run and it felt like it had another 30-35 horsepower. When I paid the bill I gave him a generous tip. I'm not saying it had 35 horse more than the factory advertised 335 hp, it had 35 more than when I got the 1000 mile break in completed. But, it WAS the quickest 383 runner I raced and there were at least 6 of them. Four with automatic, two with four speed. It was quicker than a 440 GTX automatic but that was at least 400 pounds heavier then the road runner. I beat the GTX off the line and was pulling away until I hit third gear at 70mph. I was ahead about five car lengths. That was when he started gaining on me but I beat him to the 1/4 mile mark. I don't know what his shift points were set at so he might have done better at slightly higher rpms shifting manually. He left it in drive. I had a blast with that car. It would push the speedometer clear down out of sight of the opening so I don't know how fast it actually went. 120 was the last number and it would pull at least another 800 rpms which would make it about 135mph. I was wide open in the interstate late at night and saw a state trooper heading the other way. After I flew past him I saw his brake lights come on and he crossed the median. I was WAY ahead of him by the time he was behind me so I took the first exit and slid into town and parked behind the garage that did the work on my car. I was lucky that time, he didn't find me. I didn't try that again, EVER.

Old cars tell you things thru smell, vibrations and mechanical noises. Old cars come with actual gagues that tell you your oil pressure and what temperature your engine is runnning at and you have to know what is normal for your car.

1966,67 Fairlane R code 427 lightweight has a fiberglass lift off hood . They sell hood replacements for around $700.00 if anyone has an interest . I could only imagine the price of that RR hood ? Speaking of cars with real gauges my 1969 Cobra had a gas gauge that was always on empty for some reason , I could pass anything but a gas station with that car .
