had this same car back in 78, not as nice as yours , It was the first can I bought myself, had it in high school. only difference was I had the duel carbs, I loved that car. Thanks for showing it

You had the more common GT version but as you know, they are very prone to rust but mine is nice and clean

The twin carb versions were badged as Rapiers in the UK.

Just found this video, thank you for posting it. Beautiful Sunbeam there, & greatly appreciate the timeline info on export/destination/place of sale, as there is a reason...I happen to own Alpine coupe tag #....1007. NOT as low mileage as your father's, but under 35k.. Really appreciate the detail shots underhood.

Lovely example, not many survivors left in the UK now. I see they moved the parking brake lever to the driver's side even if they didn't move the bonnet release 😅

The basic shape was later recycled by Chrysler in Highland Park, MI to be rebuilt on the Volkswagen Golf-based Plymouth Horizon hatchback sedan rolling chassis in 1978 as the Plymouth TC3 and Dodge 024. The broad pillar became forward-raked instead of slanted back and the nose and tail sections were redesigned. The TC3 used a rendition of the horizontal bar grille from the Alpine and Alpine GT. The 024 grille was a copycat of the 1974-75 front-end from the Chevrolet Vega. The Alpine/GT, Rapier and H120 fastbacks and the Sunbeam Arrow and Hillman Hunter sedans were also reengineered in Japan and made by Mitsubishi under the Galant model name. Sedans were called Mitsubishi Galant and the Alpine fastbacks and variants GTO in 1969-70 and in the USA starting in 1971 the Japanese cars sold as the Dodge Colt. The British parent cars to the Mitsubishi cars that followed sold in the USA to 1973. The Hillman Hunter gave way to the Avenger for 1971 and the Arrow model name from the Sunbeam sedans was transferred to the Alpine/Rapier fastbacks. In the USA the Avenger sold as the Plymouth Cricket. Mitsubishi reworked the Sunbeam Alpine/GT fastbacks in concept and by 1977 the fastbacks got upgraded with hatchback rear-ends, new square-cut styling and sold as the Mitsubishi Celeste and Plymouth Arrow. After the failure of the Plymouth TC3 and Dodge 024 the Arrow was redesigned and evolved into the Dodge Conquest and Chrysler Starion. Chrysler later attempted to rework the concept with the AMC/Rambler Marlin as the styling basis built on the Plymouth Neon sedan chassis as the Crossfire.
