Watch as I destroy my original speedometer....weeee....what fun!
Politics:
Why are the National Guard still at the Capitol? Why are they not being deployed to Minneapolis? The Pallets of Bricks and Bottles are being deployed there...You do know whats going on in Minneapolis right?
I could give my predictions on this platform. But....being the outcome has already been set in stone by...you know who...I would be removed for Hate Think.
We are living in a world of lies. I preached about...''The Media''... should be held accountable.......ad infinitum. However it has gotten to the point where. It would be best to take everything said, and turn it 180 degrees.
You would get many more actual facts to help you negotiate the day.
If your being told ''The Sky Is Blue and The Grass Is Green''...you had better step outside and look.
Remember the old adage......and I talked about this in February or March last year pertaining to covid.
If it looks like a Duck, quacks like a Duck, has feathers and waddles like a duck....it's not a Christmas Tree.

Ahhh.... My favorite part! So glad that you don't edit out the myriad of problems someone faces. Pleasure to watch the problem solving skills/solutions.

Thank you for your comment.....I was watching some of the ''Kawabunga Dude'' JBugs videos of their 3 litre, wildly ported, 12 carburetted, electric fuel pump, pertronix distributored nightmare ''VW'' engine build.... and yeah....They didn't show you how crappy the parts worked or the REAL outcome of the engine..... you know... so they can sell you some of those crappy Chinese blister pack Empi parts. Another Classic IMO is.... ohhh what's his name...Chris Valone? The Oil Tycoon or whatever... God Bless Him....I mean no ill will. He has more money than God. And that's great! You would have to, in order to own and maintain all those cars But, I don't think I ever saw his hands greasy. It's always someone else. Him......''And the headliner just slips into place like that'' Me....''If you cut this and saw off that, maybe you can force it into place without getting too many greasy fingerprints on it!'' ha,ha,ha

@@OkFixerYou are so right on the quality of the shitty replacement parts we get nowadays. Back in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s and even early 2000’s you could still find good quality parts. It’s gone downhill ever since and quality getting worse while prices go up by the day. That’s why I say, if you can refurbish or get refurbished the original parts, like you have done, your car will still be putzing around 50 years from now.

If you want your fuel gauge to work really well you should run a ground wire from one of the sender screws ( use a ring terminal ) to the ground spade on the speedometer or the speedometer mount. Do not play with the adjustments on the fuel gauge, they are not potentiometers and use a VDO vibrator. The ones they sell are not worth a crap.

I grounded my sending unit by attaching a wire to the machine screw without the plastic collar… Only one of them has a metal collar. To the ground screw for my headlights. It works quite nicely

The one that says ATF is from a Autoshift . I believe there is an ATF Temp light located at about 9 o'clock on the dial

It’s puzzling, because it cam from an IRS 4 speed equipped 69 that I picked a couple years back. Maybe THEY changed the speedo as well

I always get a kick out of watching my brother work on anything electric. Thank god it's low voltage D.C. so no electrocution action.

I don't remember if you grease the speedo cable? That helps with the speedo run smooth also. Here's a tip for the newer 72?-79 speedo had plastic lenses. Don't use steel wool to clean the lens. ☹
@OkFixer
@OkFixer 3 жыл бұрын
Didn’t know about the plastic lenses...probably a safety issue. Yeah I oiled the cable. It cannot be removed....this one anyway...it’s sealed, but I run some oil in it until it was dripping out the other end.

I believe you can get a replacement needle. A guy has new US made ones on Ebay for $15.00. Wouldn't a little spray lithium grease work better to lube the mechanism? My understanding is that WD40 will eventually dry. For the gels you can go to the drugstore and grab a report cover(s) and cut them to size and voila... Getting decent spade connectors not made of aluminum and in China nowadays is a real world challenge.

Getting a replacement needle and trying to pull that off and installing it... I can just see.....with me it would like a bee stinging and then pulling its guts out when it tries to pull away.... the sound of me pulling that needle off would sound like this......TWANG!!!! HA,HA,HA. And then the sound of small pieces falling inside the unit..ha,ha,ha Well, I thought about lithium...and decided xanax would be better! Ha! Seriously... the gears and such had grease on them and with the WD I thought it would loosen the grease up?....then a little machine oil?? That should not dry ...Who knows.. But your probably right about lithium. something is better than nothing. And yes... I found out after destroying the old gels that they had turned to stone....I did go to the walmart and got a red and green file folder with the celluloid colored tabs...cut them and used them on the 67 . Spade connectors, I like the doorman brand and Rock Auto sells them cheap, I believe they are Chinese but a better quality.... The big plastic assortments and ones in Walmart are crap indeed.

I just use motor oil to lube the speedometer cable. WD-40 is in no way a lubricant, it's a water displacement spray or a corrosion loosening agent although PB-Blaster works much better. Remember to seal the speedometer cable end where it exits the front wheel bearing cover with some silicone sealant so water won't get into your L.H. wheel bearing. As far as rebuilding your speedometer, I won't even try. I just order a new one from Wolfsburg West, they sell rebuilt VDO ones but you have to send in your old one as a core. The rebuilt ones have glass faces, not plastic, so when you install them don't over torque the mount screws or the face will crack.

@@brianallen9810 the one I have put together works perfectly well. I turned my cable up side down and filled it with motor oil...and let it drain, then installed....and yes on the sealant.
