This is how I watched this WS in my parents living room on a black and white tv. We didn’t get a color tv until 1971! It was an old Zenith!

Whoever made the decision to show baseball games from the centerfield camera angle, thank you!

A damn shame nbc couldn’t save the first two games on color but thank you for your hard work on showing these games! Maybe one of these days we’ll find a color version of this game or 60’s World Series games in someone’s cellar!

O’DONNELL would have only thirteen more years to live; dying of cancer at the age of 56. I remember him very well as NBC’s backup game announcer during the early 1970’s before first, JIM SIMPSON moved into the backup play by play spot, and later DICK ENBERG took over that slot. If an NBC MLB GAME OF THE WEEK was not sold out that SATURDAY afternoon, then in the market of the team it was covering, the backup game would be seen by the fans in the market that was not sold out. The same applied for rainouts of the national game of the week. And, in the market of the backup games, they would not get the backup contest, whether it was sold out in the backup game’s market, or not. Further, if the backup game was rained out, the audience that was in the nonsold-out primary game market would get no national game that week. Eventually, with the advent of local broadcasts or cable casts, both primary game’s teams’ markets, would not get their local outlet’s Saturday afternoon games shown, and would receive the NBC backup game. NBC had exclusivity rights for those contests. Maury Wills the backup game analyst in the late 1970’s and early ‘80’s never graduated to the main game booth, but his knowledge of game strategy on the backup game did help land him the SEATTLE MARINERS manager’s job, one that he lost just shortly after he nabbed it. Wills was the second full-time BLACK AFRICAN-AMERICAN MLB MANAGER, preceded in the modern years by only FRANK ROBINSON for CLEVELAND IN THE Seventies. THE FINAL BACKUP GAME PLAY BY PLAY ANNOUNCER FOR NBC WASSSSSS… BOB COSTAS with demoted color play analyst, TONY KUBEK doing those seasons with BOB. Frankly, JOE GARAGIOLA should’ve been dropped, not the thinking man’s plays analyst KUBEK. VIN SCULLY with Kubek would’ve been a great duo.. maybe the best in Baseball.. ever. Scully was dragged down by the very overrated GARAGIOLA. Ahhhh.. the backup game. R.I.P. to BILL O’DONNELL..

This is why I HATE interleague games in today's game. During this era, the two teams in the World Series would never have played each other in the regular season and this led to more interest in how they would match up against each other. And there are TOO many playoff series now. In this era, there was only one 3 game playoff series for each team before going to the World Series-now there are a huge number of playoff series most of which I don't understand anyway

I agree with you 100 percent! I miss the pitchers batting in both leagues too. More strategy back then, starters trying for complete games. Good old hardball

I remember this so well. Nobody expected the Mets to get this far, let alone win it all.

Huntley still gripes about the play at the plate with Agee 9/8, but he conveniently forgets showing up umpire Shag Crawford by slamming his bat down next to the plate and leaving it there earlier in the game when he's rung up on a called 3rd strike @ 2:37:52. Even 1st year umpires don't like being shown up like that on the field or having to deal with Leo also.

Baltimore had pitching and hitting. They blasted the Twins in the ALCS in three games, but what happened versus the Mets.

69 Orioles had one of the best W-L records ever, but could only win this gm in entire Series. It was just the Mets year, even though Orioles were the better team

America's game mirrors America for certain. Modern America much like modern baseball is a mere shadow of its former glory.

The ‘69 Orioles were one of the best teams to NEVER win a World Series. They should have been a dynasty! BTW, it was strange hearing an organist, a small ‘live’ band and Muzak in the background at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.

You're right. I think unfortunately MLB has become too bloated. You have pre season, seasonal and pre season games. That is a lot of product. Not in a good way.❤😂😢😮😊
