Just wanted to say "Thank You" again for this excellent video and your detailed knowledge. I duplicated your wiring setup and was able to troubleshoot my wiper motor on the bench and found the problem was the "park switch". You saved me many hours and dollars! I was able to clean up the park switch with electronic cleaner and it is going to "park" once again.

You should have been with us back in the late 80's replacing those switches, we got to learn the hard way of which switch went to what year of Camaro.. When the switches started going bad on mine and my friends Camaro's we went to the local junkyards and it was a lot of fun getting the right one out of the same year car in rural Ohio, the fan switches were fun also because they always went bad in the '70-'81 model and those were fun to replace also. Good memories, thanks Russ!!

Any diagnostic info on the pulse delay system? 78-79. Switch #14001502. Mine runs with key on won't shut off, new seven terminal motor installed. Squirters want to run and it stays in high speed. Switch to high and it goes to low speed. No apparent shirts to ground in the harness.

Thanks for the video! Helped me to understand few things and confirm my 128-switch is most likely broken. I know it is of course wrong, but I wonder if anyone making bigger modifications to their old Camaro has updated the whole switch to something more modern and relocated it from the dashboard. I would like something I can reach with my fingers from the steering wheel. My 72 Camaro has lot of new tech installed by the previous owners including a 2001 Corvette engine. It had also already a separate button for the washer added by the previous owner and it did not work even though the motor for wipers and washer was new. As I could not make the washer work and I prefer the washer to work continuously as long as I press a button, I already bypassed the pump and replaced with a modern pump. Motor for the wipers can stay original, but I am thinking if I could find a more modern and still good looking switch from some other car and replace the original one that is broken. I am currently making a new dashboard so this could be done at the same time maybe. Maybe I buy some used one and modify it to resemble the signal light switch. How to attach it to the base of the steering wheel remains open... but yeah, I wonder if anyone else has tried this before.

I have never had any experience with a wiper system with pulse wipers. If the motor is similar to a regular one, it must go back to low speed before it can park. I guess it possible that it could be the switch, the motor or internal wiring. I would probably pull the motor and bench test it.

Thanks, this video really helped with a total rewire of a 1980 Camaro. Same '549 switch as your '81. Testing with an ohmmeter, it seems a little shaky in the Low speed position (not reliable continuity). You mentioned having rebuilt some of these switches. Any chance you have a video on that, or one you like? Looking at mine, first thought is it would be easy to break the tabs holding it together. Thanks!

I don't have a vid on rebuilding the switch, but the one I rebuilt was pretty straightforward. Just be careful not to break the clips and when you first open, try to be as gentle as possible, not to lose the orientation of the parts inside. I hope it helps

Good morning friend, I would like to ask you a question. Have you worked with the GM 7835342 wiper switch? My case is the following. I have a 1982 Chevrolet Malibu and it uses that switch but I really can't get it to work. The wiper motor is generic, and I've already managed to identify the fast speed, slow speed, the positive, the negative, and the switch. and still can't get it to work. I would really appreciate your help my friend. greetings and a big hug from Venezuela and forgive my bad English.

Hey there, sorry, just saw this. Did you get it to work? I don't have any experience with that switch, but it should just switch the ground side of the circuit starting at low speed, then high, most motors have to go back to low speed before they can park. I hope it helps

Also, any idea what I'd need to do to convert my wipers to pulse? Thanks
@DoubleRRestorations
@DoubleRRestorations Жыл бұрын
I have no experience with the pulse. I feel like it was a rare option on these cars. It is a completely different switch/motor. As for replacements, most likely you will have to go with a donor part. Sometimes you can find them on eBay with a 30 day money back option

I have a t/a switch that I was told will work but I just wanted your humble advice before I mess up anything. Thanks for the video!
@DoubleRRestorations
@DoubleRRestorations 3 жыл бұрын
It probably will work. I would take an ohm meter and see what the pin out of the switch is. Most likely it will be the same as one of the switches in the vid. You could always bench test it before trying it in the car. Your only switching the ground side of the circuit, so you should be safe from messing anything up. Basically the motor goes into low speed before it can go into high, then it must go back into low before it can park. Hope it works for you and you are correct, the hidden wiper switches are difficult to find.

Yeah that's what I'm learning.. I have the correct motor, correct #097 switch and I can't find any wiring diagrams or videos on it. I'm told it is the "rare" #097 switch... guess that's why I can't figure it out or find a drawing of the wiring. This has been the most frustrating part of building this car so far. I have four different switches, two different motors, three sets of wiper transmissions, all new AAW classic update kit installed and no matter what I do the new motor just runs... if the key is on the wipers are on. It's not the park relay everyone is telling me it is because they start right back up when the ignition is turned back on.

It's definitely worth checking. You can take them apart and clean them. You just have to take your time and reapply some dielectric grease. The stuff hardens up after several of years. It could be something at the motor ad well.
