This Buick right here is one of the best, most desirable in the world. A 1970 Stage-1 with the ultra rare 4-speed is extremely sought after. Only 664 were made. This one has iron clad documentation directly from Buick's records. Starting with a California car, it underwent a meticulous body off frame rotisserie restoration. Then it was rewarded with 399/400 points at a Buick GS Nationals. Recently won an AACA senior national first prize and a Grand National 1st place award. Extensive photos document the restoration. The colors are incredible too.
What is a Stage-1? It was Buicks top performance package and included the following over and above the GS 455:
Larger valves with heavier springs, rejetted carb, recurved distributor, high lift cam, upgraded oiling system, high volume fuel pump, HD cooling and a posi. The a/c cars came with 3.42 gears, non a/c cars have a 3.64 making them more desirable as a muscle car.
EXTERIOR: The factory Seamist color is unique and beautiful, I've heard so many compliments. We have photos of the body stripped down to a bare metal shell. It still retains it's original metal. Time was taken to make the body laser straight and all the body gaps fit precisely. The paint was laid out evenly and the clear coat is polished like glass. This paint is 13 years old now and it looks like it was done yesterday. I did not find any cracks, bubbles or shrinkage. The jambs are just as slick, even up by the hinges. The white vinyl top looks great against the green. All of the bright work was restored. The chrome was replated, stainless was straightened and polished. Correct reproduction G60-15 Goodyear Polyglass tires on mint condition GS mags. The glass is crystal clear all around. The windows roll up effortlessly and are perfectly aligned. All the weather strips and window seals were replaced. It has correct T-3 headlights.
INTERIOR: The pearl white really compliments the paint. The inside was completely gutted to a shell. Pictures show the original floors with the factory 4 speed hole. It was Dynamatted under the carpet. The dash was completely disassembled and restored. The gauges were sent out and restored, chrome plastic trim was replated. The knobs, vents, original radio, glovebox liner are all like new. It has factory gauges and tachometer, also a deluxe wheel. New upholstery on the seats and door panels. Headliner and visors were replaced. Every thing from carpet to headliner was replaced, it all fits and functions properly too.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The original motor was completely rebuilt, it performs like new. It has correct casting codes, the block was decked during rebuild. The carb, distributor and alternator #s are all correct. Every component was restored and detailed to factory standards. There is a reproduction Delco battery and spring clamp cables. It features ram air, power steering and power brakes.

Jay. I haven't seen a car of yours for sale past six figures for a very long time . But this is well worth the wait ! It is a magnificent car presented in the most immpeccable condition. I know you compliment a number of cars on the panel gaps etc. But truly, l've not seen one as perfect as this that l can recall. Who ever becomes the next custodian of this piece of mobile jewellery will be pinching themselves ! It's actually a privilege to view this beautiful Buick and l take my hat off to the artisans who restored this important motor car. Thankyou Jay. .......Can l go to bed now it's nearly midnight and l have an "e"type to restore ! 😊

Nice Buick, I always found people compared this to the Chevelle but I find the Buick was a better quality build , and less popular.

In 74 my dad got me a GS 455 Stage 1,4spd. It was in the dealer over 2years. Gas crisis in 73 got hold of many big BLOCKS. My dad was a Buick loyalist since 65 he got Riviera GS & Stage 1. His salesman offered him a deal just to get it out. I didn't care for it til ppl told me the gem I had. Changed the tires to radials, change the fan to fiberglass, & also included octane booster with every fill up. Loved Sunoco 260, but not for long. It was a gr8 car to travel with 6ppl long distances. I really tried NOT to race, but, ppl would egg me on. I got very good slamming the gears. Wish I still had it. I took very good care on maintenance. It would've lasted .🇺🇸

Always loved the '70 GS. My second car was a '72 GS 350 in Burnished Copper with white interior. I couldn't afford the insurance for a Stage 1.

Early sequence car as well. Plastic radiator brace, clear top overflow, pointed lenses, long armrest bases. This old girl was done right. Pretty unusual paint code as well and it looks sharp. This is the sort of car that people used to mean when they said "restored". Now they seem to mainly mean "fixed up".

Whoever ordered the car did not go for the optional front disk brakes. When you think about it they only spent money to go fast and did not care about stopping.

The G.S. 455 or Stage 1 came with A/C provided the rear axle was no higher than 3.42:1..

Hi Bert. Lots of confusion about the Gran Sports and GS models still. Some people still swear that you couldn't get a GS455 convertible, for example. In 1970, you could get a GS with a 350 (the Model name literally was "GS" and instead of number script under the fender emblems it had a "BUICK MOTOR DIVISION" emblem), a 455 (the model was "GS455"), and a 455 with the Stage 1 option (although the VIN does not identify it as a GS455 Stage 1, just as a GS455). If you were connected, you could actually get a Stage 2 option for the 455 but that is a very rare car. Many GS455s, both Stage 1 and non-Stage 1 had a/c. The joke was that at the dragstrip, the GS455 driver could enjoy his air conditioning as he watched the car in the other lane get smaller in the rear view mirror.
