1970 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 for sale at Volo Auto Museum (V20774)

This is a real SS 396 car. It's been frame off restored. It has a correct engine, original trans and rear.
EXTERIOR: It's stunning! Arrow straight body with no rust or damage. It features front and rear spoilers, sport mirrors and extra trim. Repainted Cortez Silver. The shine is so deep it looks like you can reach into it. Blacked out SS tail panel and grill. The chrome bumpers, taillights, door handles and emblems look new. The rubber seals and weatherstrips are replaced. The door jambs are painted slick. The wheels are restored. Windshield and rear window were replaced.
INTERIOR: I'm sitting inside the car and it's in fantastic condition. It's a deluxe interior which includes wood grain and custom weave upholstery. In front of me the dash pad is mint, it's not curled like most of them. It's all stock, has a radio delete. Center console is really nice. Door panels are excellent, seats have been restored, carpet is new with GM floormats. The headliner is tight, mirror looks new, dome light works. All the trim is in excellent shape.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It is restored to factory condition. Correct 396 motor, the casting numbers are proper. All stock manifolds, valve covers, air cleaner, correct fuel filter. It even has reproduction hoses and clamps. Features include power steering, power brakes and a factory air conditioning. All the metal surfaces are painted really nice. All the components look fresh and proper.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It's beautifully refinished and it is complete. Under the trunk lid and the jamb are gloss silver. It has a new sticker and weatherstrip. Inside is all clean metal with a gray and white spatter finish. The wiring, tail light housings, and rubber mat look new. Complete spare and jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: Body was off the frame. The front-end steering and suspension have been completely rebuilt. The rear suspension bushings and shocks were replaced. It has the F-41 sports suspension with sway bars. It has a correct dual exhaust system with transverse muffler. The fuel system has been completely replaced including the tank, straps, and fuel lines. The brake system has been restored, it's disc in front. E-brake cables are hooked up. Looking up at the motor it's spotless, the starter and fly wheel cover is new. Vin # matching Turbo 400 automatic with original tag still attached. It has an extra capacity finned aluminum pan. Original 12 bolt rear with 3.31 gears. Floors and braces all appear to be rock solid with a thin undercoat.
Very sleak looking SS. Ready for show and go!

Not all SS’s came with the F41 suspension. But all Big Block SS’s did. So, yes it a sign this is a true BBC SS’s.

@@aldo6192 not true. F41 was standard only on big block Ss’s and Z/28’s. It was optional on small block SS’s and all other trim levels. I own a documented ‘71 RS/SS that wasn’t optioned w the F 41 suspension.

Only discrepancy I see is, the tall 3 piece spoiler wasn’t available in 70 until April. This is a February built car. Not a big deal. Also it’s a Norwood built car . Not Van Nuys as denoted by the N in the vin.

I always had a liking of the smaller spoiler, and was always heard it referred to as the 1970 and 1/2 spoiler?

@@davidfrazier9361 the taller spoiler was something the Trans Am cars needed to create better downforce. In order to put it on the race car , it needed to be a production piece. COPO num 9796. In ‘71 on, it became part of the D80 spoiler package. There actually isn’t a 70 1/2 Camaro. That was something magazines and media came up with. Chevrolet never called it that. This was caused by the late release date of the car. Which was the middle of January 1970. As opposed to the auto industry regular new year production starting in September of the previous year. There were issues with the sheet metal stampings . Apparently there are 1969 Camaros that were produced past the August 31st cutoff. No one calls those 70 Camaros.

Awesome car! Great video! One thing to point out. Even though in 1970 they called it an SS396, and the sticker on the air cleaner says 396, it is not a 396 engine. It is a 402. A ridiculous marketing game GM played on the public from 1970 on. FYI.

The solenoid has nothing to do with the carb, its a TCS switch, it won't allow the distributor to advise until the transmission hit high gear
