Love the car! Although I worked at a Chrysler Plymouth dealer in 1970, that dealer was in Grand Rapids Michigan. I also was born and raised in the Grand Rapids area. In the fall 1969 I started working in the new car department, washing cars. In the fall of 1970 I went to work in the parts department, much to the dislike of the service manager, but the parts manager needed someone that was dependable to deliver wholesale parts to repair and body shops. As a parts driver I delivered crash parts to Berger Chevrolet. Up until 2 years ago I lived in the Grand Rapids area. I now live in south Georgia. I believe Berger is one of the oldest GM dealers still owned by the same family.

There's a neighbour of mine that stil l has his 1964 Custom 500 with the 352 V8 as well as original paint . He wanted to buy a low-end 4 door FORD but the dealer didn't have any on the lot. He was told that it would be about 4-6 weeks for an Ordered Custom 500 . So he picked the colours and options but in just 2 week the dealer called that he car came in . The FORD plant is just 25 miles away and must have slowed down in the Spring of 1964 to build his so quickly . I like how there's a nice story behind every person that still has the new car after 30+ years .

Was this at the recent Mecum Car auction ? I see the Mecum stickers in the back ground. I love watching the online auctions. I usually catch them after work when they are almost over and I scroll back to the beginning. I am telling you Lou, I am in SHOCK at how LOW some of these awesome cars roll of the block for. And almost 99.9% look show room new. You know the SS 454 ‘70 Chevelle is a well sought after and brings in crazy money but was never one of my top 25 cars to drool over. I think it’s because I seem so many in other forms that to me it looks like a Malibu coupe. I know it has the goods. And this one is Special but just not my choice for styling. I hope you’re not mad at me. Haha

Very COOL LS6 Chevelle!! I wish I could have seen it with its original paint. Obviously this one was taken care of very well by its original owner. It makes me wonder if it truly needed a re-paint at all. Sadly, so many cars have been victims of over restoration and unnecessary re-paints. I guess that's what makes survivors wearing their original paint just that much more special.

Beautiful car for sure and will likely bring a record number when it goes to auction especially in that color. The 18 built number has been floating around for many years and is not correct. That is actually the number of 1970 396/375 L89 Chevelle engines that were built that year with an estimated 9 cars being produced. Only one documented L89 car is know of today and it is a hardtop. The LS6 converts were estimated to be around 200-250 units give or take. I personally have over 40 documented convertibles in my registry and don't begin to think I have them all. Good luck with the sale and hope that it goes to a very special home. I saw this car in person and it was indeed stunning.
