The Wait is Over: NEW 2024 Chevrolet Chevelle 70/SS Takes the Spotlight
When the Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport 454 was released in the 1970s, a new era of powerful muscle cars was born. Sadly, the dynasty of Chevelle muscle cars only lasted for three generations before it was discontinued due to the enormous production costs General Motors was incurring despite the huge success of the Chevelle brand. And while fans have long since questioned the company’s decision not to reboot the hit brand, General Motors has been pretty secretive about any new developments.
Watch the video to see all we know about this upcoming musclecar classic!

I'm 81 now and still love these cars. I got out of the Army in late 1964, I went down to my local Chevy dealer and bought a 1965 Malibu Chevelle with 327/350 HP with Muncy four speed and posi-traction. I had the fastest car in my small town for a while. Still enjoy the memories!!!! Sadly I will not be buying one of these!!!

Hello brother. I'm 61 and bought a 68 firebird convertible when i was 16, from my cousin, the motor, 350 big block was swapped to a 69 GTO 400. I was a kid in Cold Lake Alberta. 308"s in the rear end ( high way gears ). I was doing 150 mph as I passed Mitch Emery in his AMX 400. My dad found out I had my sister in the car and I've never heard him so angry with me. Cheers from Cold Lake.

I purchased a 1970 Chevelle SS396 in early 1970 from the Chevy Dealer in Burkburnett, Texas. It was Midnight Blue, w/white interior, bench seats etc. I installed an 8 track tape (popular in those days) with rear speakers. The price out the door was $3568.00. I sold the car 2 years later for $3000, wish I had kept it.

In my opinion the styling of the 1969 Chevelle was far superior to the next year’s more ‘boxy’ style. I always thought the stance of it looked like it was growling even if it was parked. I feel if you are going to redo the car you should concentrate on the whole feel of it, at least make it bigger than the Camaro (as in the good ol’ days) and bring back the chrome. Bumpers, door handles, stainless trim around wheel wells, windows etc. That’s what defined the era.

Totally agree! 69 is by far my favorite year for the Chevelle. The look from the side of the car is perfect. The way the grill wraps around and slashes down gives it that shark mouth look and the way the quarter window (looks great rolled down!) comes to a point, fits this car so well. I also dig the interior too (in all black)

@@BitchnNissan That my 1969 RS SS Z28 that I own and built when I was 16 is a better car than yours will ever be, grandpa. This new "Chevelle" is an atrocity. I promise you without any regard I have driven more cars of this era that were all fully restored than you could ever dream of. I have been fortunate enough to be around 30+ brand new 1970 LS6's and even more 1st gen Camaros. Anything you can possibly think of in that latter part, 327's, 350's, 396's, and even 427's.... not just a COPO steel block also a ZL1 Aluminum block.. plus some big motor swaps. I daily drove a 502 Hugger Orange '69 when I was in highschool frequently. When the new generation Camaros came in stock at a local GM dealership I had to drive about 5 different promo 1st gens in to sit out for promotion for them (owner was a family friend). One of their salesmen tried to trade me for my car and I laughed... just like I would if you tried to trade me your "15 Z28 LS7". None of us were hating on the origin of the Chevelle, we were hating on the absolute ruined design of them in the same facet that they ruined the Camaro when it was brought back (mind you, your model is less atrocious than the initial 2009 series). If Mopar can figure out a way to make the Challenger an absolute badass beast that looks the part to it's roots, then what is GM's problem? I'm assuming I was 1 of the 2 members who you were referring to here, if not apologies for the long comment, but if so I'd say you can step off of your pedestal, sir.

I would buy an original matching numbers 396 70 SS. I purchased a 94 1/2 mustang convertible when new. 1 of 1000 and Ford said they were only making it that year for their 30 year anniversary, 26k sticker with 4 k premium, the very next year Ford made them again. The value never went up. These cars now are for high end collectors that want to hang out together bidding at auctions swapping cars. I’m glad I grew up in the 70’s.

That looks like a redesign, a remodel of the old model. "The builders at Trans Am Worldwide have worked diligently to revitalize this classic muscle car with modern-day standards. Built off the new sixth-generation Camaro base, the designers have reshaped the exterior to pay homage to the classic '70s model." I could be wrong but that's not a production line General Motors product made from scratch like they used to do it. That's a Camaro with a revitalized Chevelle shell on it from Trans Am World. To each his own. I'll pass. Click bait.

I still have my '68 El Camino that was my first car, but it no longer runs & is in need of a complete restoration, which will be started as soon as I'm done with my '69 C10, but I never had a wife telling me to sell it, or kids that I'm aware of, so it was easy for me to just park it & hang on to it until I could do something with it... but most people, especially back then, didn't see their vehicle as anything that was worth keeping... when they're common, who cares? It's just a car... but then later, when they become uncommon, it's always the same story, 'I used to have one of those. Wish I'd never sold it'... but now, 40 years later, I don't have to say that, because I still have mine... biggest problem is people have been trained by society to want new stuff all the time... don't restore that old beater, just buy a new one... so people tend to view vehicles as disposable...you don't have to look ol boy up on my account, I'm pretty sure I already know how that conversation will go...'Hey, you still have that red 454 Chevelle you had almost a half century ago?' him: 'Well, a couple years after highschool...'

Some 60's on the front and 50's on the back with Crager rims and maybe even some scavenger pipes just ahead of the rear axle. Maybe even some Flames down the sides OR the standard 2 stripes down the middle. Damn. I'm getting a chubby just thinking about. Really - A 70’s Chevelle SS was definitely one of my favorite - if not all time favorite muscle cars but, as already mentioned - who will be able to afford to buy , not the everyday - ordinary - working class American these days, unlike back in the 70’s. Just like purchasing a home these days - the cost of new homes is now more than most can afford , SO , to many - the American dream of owning your own home is now gone. Guess it is save to say - the new Chevelle SS target market is aimed at the super wealthy but hey , where the rubber meets the road - no pun intended - it is still just an automobile.

I love these cars and had both a Camaro and a Chevelle as a kid. They were inexpensive and available. When I heard about the 2024 Chevelle I was looking forward to it. IF the video showing the Chevelle is actually the new Chevelle, it is disappointing because it looks like the modern Camaro. There's really no old school look of the 70 Chevelle for the body of this vehicle. Of course, maybe the video is showing an outdated prototype or something else but if that is the actual body of the new Chevelle, it's just a modern Camaro with a few different features and motors. The Chevelle look is iconic, to make the new version look like the new Camaro is nothing more than a marketing ploy.

I always liked the 1969 & 1970 Chevelle's but they were everywhere. I wanted something a bit different so I acquired a 1970 Monte Carlo from my brother. It went from being a lowrider without a motor & trans to a daily driver that hauled ass and was a lot of fun to cruise. He installed a tilt-steering wheel, power seat, small block and a turbo 350 trans w/shift kit. The lowrider paint job was really colorful and really busy but it had to go. We got as far as red primer and that was good enough for me. At least it was all one color. With the black vinyl top it looked real mean. It was a good look for a car with a license plate # 342 MOB, hehehe. . . oh, to be 20 yrs old again! Fast forward 40 years. . . my brother owns a beautiful '69 Chevelle. Reminds me of my 1972 Chevelle, especially the green one, although mine was repainted a dark metallic green with a mint green half-vinyl top. The grill was changed to a tubular one and the front bumper was reinforced to prevent the typical nose of it from pointing upwards if someone backed into it in a parking lot. No performance engine either, just a standard 283 CI with some chrome attributes, standard wheels with beauty rims with center caps. (I had planned on changing the center caps to Baby Moons at one time.) The Interior was green vinyl bench seats, AM radio, with one back seat speaker for the Mickey Shore Reverb addition.

Nothing like great announcing! I have always wanted a car that can produce a lot of LITTER. That's all I can hear throughout this entire vlog report! So much mention about LITTER! Hahaha

@@martinadams7949 Did Pontiac make transoms as well as Trans Ams? Hey, maybe that’s what those 50s quarter glass driver’s side windows were really called! 😁

The price is absolutely crazy. It doesn't have to be that high. I would just get a 70 model it is a lot cheaper. Insane Price !!!!!!!

the camero is a bad as car for shure but i still think camero missed the mark if you ask me...the hind quarters are goofy lookin ...they should have leaned more towards the 69 with the squared off rear wheel wells...they nailed it back in 69

Who the hell can afford anything in the US anymore? My Dad bought a Chevelle in 1970 for $2600.

If I could afford it, it would have to have the chrome bumpers front and rear. I really don't like the snowplow front end at all

I think at those prices, you're better off buying a classic Chevelle. IMO, it looks much better compared to this boxier homage. Currently, you can get a nice original for much less than $200 grand, often with upgrades, so I don't see the appeal unless you're opposed to buying an older car. If that's the case, then save even more money & buy a Hellcat if you want a "neo-muscle" car.

BULLSH!T!! NO REAL 70 LS6 Chevelle sells for "much less than 200 grand" & the classic cars are slugs compared to the new cars! Are you able to shell out over a quarter milllion $$$$ for a REAL 70 LS6 Chevelle that won't perform half as well at anything as this new car? ROFLMAO

Sorry to say, they’re shooting themselves in the foot with the price tag, considering they’re entering the market with this muscle too late, in a time of economic downturn. Sales to be lowest of all on the muscle market today. Always loved my Chevelles; turning my my back to this highway robbery!

Every car & truck is overpriced today because of government regs & union labor(at over $100 per hour including benefits & they want a 40% increase & cut back to 32 hours per week!). A friend bought a kind of plain Jane 3500 Chevy truck a year ago & it was $95,000

While I''m happy to see the return of unique muscle car body lines, something is missing. Oh yeah, CHROME bumpers! Their faces look flat, and are lacking that "I'm a sexy beast" look. Love the bodies on the new Camaro, the Chevelle is suspiciously similar to the Camaro. The price tag on these lovelies is for folks with too much money, that can't do cocaine. That being said, the main takeaway here is Keep on Hot Roddin', keep on building your dream ride. Personally, anything made after the 70's is an electronic nightmare tracking device.

The muscle cars of the 60's/70's were bought by young blue collar guys who would tinker and modify them then run them up and down main street. They took these new ones right out of the hands of their customer base. 100,000 to 2000,000 dollars cars? Insane! Save your money and get a used Challenger Scat Pac with a manual transmission.

The whole point of the classic muscle cars, was when guys tinkered with them, and drove them, and then tinkered some more, they knew their car, and knew how to drive it. Now you can buy a stock muscle car with 600+ hp, and don't know shit. Thats why you see videos of assholes doing burnouts in the intersection, and then wrecking.

If they're going to bring back the Chevel Super Sport, then don't change it. The Camaro being the inspiration for Trans Am is a different matter both being back to back contemporaries , bringing back a car after more than 50 years is a different matter.

For me, it was the 67 Chevelle SS. I remember the local dealer had one that was blue with a black interior and a 396/ 4speed. I fell in love, but was 17 at the time and couldn't afford one 😢.

The 1st car I ever owed was a '69 Chevelle Malibu convertible, purchased as an 8 yo car for 800, very clean 80k on odom.. Came with a smokey 307 and a BW 3 speed stick. I promptly installed a 350/350 4 bolt, backed with an M-22. It burned up in a fire. I stood on a nearby rooftop as the firefigher hacked away at the trunk lid. I told the firefigher next to me 'You know, I have the key for that.' He responded "Nah, he's having too much fun." The end... If I win the lottery, I'd favor a resto over the '24. But it is sweet. Perhaps I'd get both. The original would be a requirement

I couldn't disagree more with the nostalgic guys that insist they'd rather have the original. Quality and performance of automobiles has come a long way in 50 years. A long way ... It's not a close call.
