Fun to see that car again. I got to drive it many years ago now, in Stoneboro, Pennsylvania. The luggage rack and the 383 2 barrel are the big clues for me.

Those style gas caps sure looked nice but would leak out gas on a hard right turn. I got to go with my dad in the late summer of 1970 (I just turned 10) when he purchased a new/used Charger 500. It only had a couple thousand miles on it. The owner traded it in for a new RT/SE. I tried to talk my dad into getting one with the 440 but he liked the 500 with the 318. It was green with a white vinal-top. Had hubcaps and drom brakes that worked really good. My dad got a new truck in 75` and gave the Charger to my Mom. She had be driving our 65` Country Squier since the Charger purchase. Sadly, she totalled it out (no injuies) in the summer of 81` when I was in Boot camp at MCRD. I had planned on purchasing it from my dad until then. O`well!

Those blinker markers remind me of my 74 Caddy Senan Deville which had corner markers that gave you an idea where your bumper is in relation and also had little dots that the turn signals(owners manual said lane changing feature) and a dot that let you know your headlights on. Also little dots above the rear window so you know your brake lights work.

WOW, I bought my 500 L code 383 2bl. Same color with white vinyl top and interior. About week after my 18th birthday way back in aug.77. I put stock 4 bl intake with 700 double pumper holley and Hedman headers. It was fast, had it up close to 150 few times. Wish I still had it today.

Forgot to point out the unique to SE door panels. I'll never say never with MoPar, but the L31 option was not supposed to be a stand alone option (even at $10). The A01 Light Package included for $34.70 these options as seen on the Broadcast Sheet L05, L11, L15, L25, L65, L72, L31. It was Standard with A47 SE Package, which included for $161.65 A01, CR__, J41, J64, S81, W13. The CR__ indicated Leather Bucket Seats with the blanks being filled in to indicate color. Those were CRB5 for Blue, CRF8 for Green, CRT6 for Tan & CRXA for Charcoal. There were 5 additional luxury items that were separate from the SE Package. H51 A/C, H31 Rear Defogger, C62 6 way adjustable drivers seat, M51 Sunroof & P31 Power Windows. The B41 Power Disc or B51 Power Drum Brake options are also extra cost - but more performance related. Great Car. I enjoy your coverage. I'll defer to you for knowledge of any & all other cars. Hope to see your coverage of the 71 RR behind the Charger!

Good job Steve.....and a really great Car ! I believe that in 1970 the L31 Hood Mounted Turn Signals were included as part of the "SE" Pkg Similar 'original' reference condition to my '69 Charger R/T SE, nice to know they are still 'out there' well maintained

With the VIN, you win: X for Charger, P for Premium price class, 29 for two door sports hardtop, L for 383 V8 with two barrel, 0 for 1970 model year, G for St. Louis, MO assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The St. Louis, MO plant complex operated from 1959 to 2009. No tag, can't brag, but this should be code Y4 Light Gold exterior paint.

I had one of these. 1980. Bought it from a plumber. Sweet! I had the bigger engine. I forgot which one. Loved those hide away headlights. Bought it for nothing 750 dollars . Sold it 5 years later 4 grand or so. Crazy. Got paid. I had to store it at my buddy's house because our garage was full. Tooo many people messing with it. Got it off Trading Times. LOL. By the way. The only people who can afford these cars are lottery winners, older retirees or someone who inherited some big money. Working people with families cannot afford to buy something that sits 9 months out of the year in cold weather states ( over half the country). They cost too much. Just try to find one to fix up; if you can.

The 500 with the flush rear window was a special limited production for 1969 only. For 1970 it was just a trim package with a regular rear window.

Was this originally non-vinyl top or was it converted during that respray? Being an SE/500 it would be unusual to not have vinyl. I see so many of these that have had the vinyl removed in the name of practicality and they wind up looking naked.

With a 290 HP 383, I bet all you had to do is to slap a new intake and a Carter 4-barrel carb, and possibly another exhaust manifold, the upswept ones, and you would have your 335 HP. I had a 68 Dodge Super Bee in high school, many, many moons ago, with the 383 HP. It hauled ass stock. I slap myself in the face because I had to sell it for tuition for college. Boy, was I an idiot.
