Me too. The Dodge Super Bee and the Plymouth Roadrunner have always been my favorite muscle cars. They were some of the best performance bargains of the muscle car era along with the 340 powered A-Bodies(Dart, Duster, Demon). You could buy a brand new Roadrunner or Super Bee in 1968 and 69 with the HiPo 383, a 4 speed manual trans, and a standard 3.23 rear axle for less than $3,000. The perfect car for the guy who wanted something fast but didn't care about all the bells and whistles. The only difference between the Super Bee and Roadrunner was the Bee came with carpet instead of rubber floors and cost about $100 more than a similarly equipped Roadrunner.

One of my first automotive childhood traumas was seeing a shiny, rust free one of these in a Las Vegas wrecking yard in the mid '70's. I couldn't understand why it was there so I went out of my way to ask the wrecking yard owner how this car ended up there. He said it was a theft recovery and all that was left of it when it came in was the body. It was hemi orange with the twin scoop hood and was a hemi car (reason it was stolen). I still cringe over that car every time I see one of these. I hope that wrecking yard owner cringes too. Just the rust free shell and the fender tag are probably worth over $25K nowadays.

Never liked the grill of the Super Bee (had a '69 Charger) but all over the mill. ha, college radio (KFJC) used to play tunes on The Big Guitar Show circa '97 from a band called 440 6 Pak. Not long after I saw a special on TV about muscle cars and while the 426 Hemi with dual quads was a monster, it apparently was hard to dial in over time, solid lifters. 440 Six Pak, set it and forget it. And termed as 'violent'.

Great car. Thanks Lou. The origin of the super bee name is is amazing. When the car was being developed as a Dodge version of the Plymouth Road Runner it did not yet have an official name. Back in the 60's Chrysler had three basic platform for its cars, "A" for the compacts, "B" for the intermediates, and "C" for the full size. Since it didn't have a name yet, the people developing it simply called it the super "B". Then they came up with the great Bee logo with the slicks, headers, and racing helmet, and the Super Bee was born!
