Another abandoned project hits the junkyard. This time its a 1970 Chevy El Camino. This one still had some new parts on it. I hadnt been to this particular junkyard in a week so who knows what engine, transmission or rear end it had. as they were already gone. Also missing was the steering column which could have been a tilt. The master cylinder amd booster were taken as well. New brake lines as well as new fuel lines along woth a new fuel tank were still there. I noticed fairly new exhaust even. The car looked solid overall and could definitely have been saved in my opinion. Unfortunately it will soon be meeting the crusher.

If I were going to restore a car, this would be it. It would be resto-moded with bucket seats and console shift. High gloss metalic gold with a light tan interior. Dreams don't cost much!

Whoa Nelley, Elk Dog turned into a hog. That's rough, rough, rough, and rough. But anything can be fixed. We got the tag, we can brag: ST70 for 1970 model year, 13680 for Chevrolet (1) Malibu (36) El Camino/pickup delivery body style (80), BL for Van Nuys, CA assembly, possible 752 for Black coated fabric interior trim, bench seat, 10 for Classic White lower exterior paint, B for Black vinyl top, and 10C for the third week of October 1969 production. That's some sort of LH handle, perhaps the inside or outside door handle from GM. That's probably 1990s stock based on the box. We got the VIN, we win: 1 for Chevrolet, 36 for Malibu V8, 80 for two door pickup/delivery body style, 0 for 1970 model year, L for Van Nuys, CA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Van Nuys plant, one of the "Terrible Three" in the GM system was rife with labor problems. It closed in 1992 after the last of the 3rd generation F body cars were assembled there. Whoa Nelley, 1970 and gotta go. "Pickup" had a hiccup. That's it, time to quit. Malibu and it's over for you. Going to be flat and that's that. Painted Classic White and soon to be out of sight. Division 1 is just about done. Chevy looking kinda heavy. "A" body is a bit shoddy. Going to get squished and the GM faithful, many here, Benny for sure, and yup, the Google Man are going to be very pissed.

@@ClassicRideSociety Yes, I'm pretty sure I have. The original owner of my 1979 Trans Am put "Compu-Cruise" control on it because you couldn't get cruise control with manual transmission (all that the Pontiac 400 came with in 1979) that year. So he added it. It was troublesome he said. He was a "gadget guy". By the time I got the car, all of that was taken off.

I see potential, Chevy drivetrain is so common, you can find it just about everywhere. I wonder if maybe a family member died, and the others didn't know what to do with it, or just don't want the hassle. I've seen that here in my area too many times.

This one looks very much savable. Just keep it nice and original restoration, factory specs wheels, nice engine. Somehow I always imagine these cars painted blue.

I had a fully restored and hot rodded all to hell 1970 SS El Camino when I was younger. My dad sold it out from underneath me and I've missed that car ever since. I'd give just about everything I own for that body and chassis just how it sets.

It' would have been a great project but now that it's in the yard, project is over, In most states once a VIN hits salvage it can't be sold again as a whole car. So whatever doesn't get taken off of it goes into the crusher. Best that can be hoped for is that as many pars as possible come off it. However, this looks more like a metal yard vs. a classic car yard which means they usually don't keep them around too long.
@ClassicRideSociety
@ClassicRideSociety 9 ай бұрын
@@kennethsouthard6042 that yard does sell vehicles. I have had a few chances to buy whole vehicles as long as they haven't turned rhe title in to the state. But what sucks is that once it's in the yard for parts people can actually be pulling parts from it while you're in the process of buying it. Some years back they used to allow people to check out the new inventory before it hit the yard for parts. That was best time to buy whole with the title. Now most of the time the title has been turned over by the time its out therr for parts

Damn Benny, what an absolute *WASTE* of a clean example! Most El Caminos you see in the yard are *RUST* *BUCKETS*. This one had a lot of $$$ poured into it and it really could've been saved. Not many project 70 el Caminos are this nice and it wouldn't break the bank for someone to finish what was started. Such a shame. Did you get the NORS POA valve?
