Good inspiration for when you have to replace same gasket several times in a row... Heck I appreciate time gaps, I have a 82 k10 that broken supply chain, broken ankel, and other random life has staled the build.

If he didn't there wouldn't be a video this truck started off the bat if he didn't make a series of mistakes it would be a 5 min video. It looks almost intentional, like why put a pos carb that didn't even have jets. I swear sometimes he does shit the wrong way for the video. He always tries to fire shit with the shit gas, "it sat 20 years" thats a great idea. Then sit there trying to light it off break clean.

You guys inspired me to bring a barn find back to life. I'm more of a bike guy due to space constraints, found a rolling dirt dobber spider nest disguised as a V-Twin Yamaha that sat up for over a decade. Took a few weeks but I used some of your tricks and started the old girl up for the first time today. Big fan of your work, it's great saving these classics from the junkyard.

I would actually call this video a resounding success; perhaps not in the way the 'build' came out, but entertainment-wise it was an absolute hoot!😸Also, it very clearly showed what any young or novice backyard mechanic on a budget might be facing when doing something similar, so I'd say you succeeded in showing us all what you wanted to show us! And yay for the shop tigers spicing up the video as well!🐅Meowr!

I’ve done a handful of partial engine rebuilds/ refresh’s. Honing cylinders, new rings and bearings, sometimes a cam replacement or upgrade. A performance intake with a newish four barrel carb. I use to use the old carb ( steady reliable runner) during the initial start up and break in period. Nerve wracking experience. Then upgrade to the newish 4 barrel and time to tune.

Hey Kevin, What I've done with starters & old cars/ wiring is add a relay to the start pin solenoid so that essentially your giving the solenoid a punch of power like you do with a screwdriver only a lot less sparks...... It only takes a few minutes to make up & install. I've done this to heaps of shitboxes over the years that has paid dividends..... Keep up the good work cheers from Australia

Since you mentioned red RTV, I thought I'd share a fun anecdote. When I was in my early 20's, my girlfriend at the time had this beat Subaru that barely ran. I did the plugs, and found that cylinder 4's plug was cross-threaded. Getting it out destroyed the threads, and I wasn't working on it in a shop so I couldn't helicoil it. Her dad, an old-school diesel mechanic, told me to smear red RTV on the new spark plug and crossthread it in the other way. It was messy and took a couple tries to get it to bite, but I got it in and it worked! We got another 10K miles out of that car.

For assembly lube you can do like the old timers did back in the day and use Vaseline. It's pure petroleum jelly and won't hurt your motor. It's also what was used a lot of times in spots where you would need soft grease before soft grease was truly wide-spread. I know this because I purchased and rebuilt an antique hand crank Victrola and the original lubrication diagram/instructions specifically calls for oil and pure Vaseline where specified.

If you buy a Holley you need to take it apart and check for a warped base plate and body where the metering block sits. I had a surge problem and a rpm problem where backing off the idle screw did not lower the idle. I ended up with a blown primary power valve, leaking metering block gaskets and warped parts where I spent 5 hrs filing. The 780 in my 70 Z28 runs great now after cleaning parts, blowing compressed air and changing gaskets etc.

as a tip from a body guy, for anyone who should happen to see it, start spraying before you would hit the piece and let go once you're past, hold about 10 to 12 inches away and try to stay square to the surface you're painting, after that shoot for 1/3 to 1/2 overlap and anything from matte to high gloss will lay silky smooth long as you let it flash for about 10 minutes between coats of the same paint and 1 hour between differing paint, but above all else make sure it's clean, if you wonder whether its clean enough clean it again because there it no such thing as clean enough lol

This will be interesting to watch. I have doing this for lifetime, using used parts to repair cars. I began 1980 in the autumn when I bought my first car , a 1965 Plymouth Valiant. Now I have turned 60 and still working on old American cars. I own 4 Mopar cars and 2 Audi , 1 Opel and a motorcycle : a 1975 Moto Guzzi California 850.
