1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator in Green & Boss 302 Engine Sound on My Car Story with Lou Costabile

We're looking at a 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator in Lime Green Metallic Paint. The car features the factory Boss 302 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Eric Petosa. Eric’s had this car since 2005. He shares this car was the last Cougar Eliminator produced in this one of one color. He’s restored this car and it looks showroom new.

Cool video! If you see one again, that diaphragm on the side of the air cleaner is connected to manifold vacuum, so when you floor it, vacuum goes away, a door opens and you hear the sound of the intaking air, giving the sound of power. With the final reduction of compression for 1972, Ford added this feature to the air cleaner of the 351C-4V.

our California 1966/327 Corvette also had the smog pump...Just for that year for some reason my uncle told me ...dropped it for the 67 model year according to him anyway. He threw it all in a box and set the mess in the rafters after it went exempt. Glad we kept the stuff just in case.

Oh Lou you know me i love cougars! What a unique color inside and out. I love the owner and how he loves his car and his knowledge of his car and all the stickers he found and everything else he had to find. I love eliminators! Just a gorgeous car. Five thousand dollars for tires! Wow! Now that is a real car enthusiast! Sounded nice and you just gotta love those hidden headlights and the sequential tail lights and turn signals. I have always said that cougars are toe much nicer and prettier than mustangs. I like mustangs but these by far are just awesome! Thanks Lou for sharing!!

Gorgeous...i love 67-70 Cougar's. My favorite small block pony car ever made other than a 70 Dodge Challenger T/A or possibly a 69 Camaro Z28. I'll take this over a Boss 302 Mustang any day of the week. The Cougar was a much nicer car overall than the Mustang was

Car is awesome!!! man, in the late '70s, family got out the USMC and bought a cherry '68, metallic green with a houndstooth vinyl top. Not a 'Boss' 302 but a 302. I was surprised when it was replaced by a conversion style Pinto Wagon with a V6. THAT he loved. Cougars were rad .

My Car Story the history makes this car unique as its on the money for keeping it original and has a story brought both his daughters home in this. Beautiful nostalgia. By the way my first born got a ride in my 85 Mustang gt to the hospital in the womb sorry not taking away from this example. But my son Brandon today has a 2012 Super Bee slightly modified 500 hp at the crank . Wife in labour back in 1992 20 min ride to the hospital made it in 10 min.He got the itch for speed. And way more mature than me with this car. He has to be his job is driving boom trucks. My other two daughters one in age in the middle has no interest in driving the princess my youngest is a speed demon.Youngest in Ottawa perfect place for her driving habits. Sorry Lou when you mention new life in an old car brings back while you know.

I remember my third car back in 1980-'81, a 1970 Mercury Cougar Xr7, dark ivy green, saddle leather interior, black vinyl top, 351 Cleveland, 4 barrel, ps, pb, and air conditioning! At the same time, there was a 1969 Cougar xr7 in the exact same color combination! I actually held on to the car until 1986, along with my fourth car, a 1971 Imperial LeBaron! Then I junked them! Dum me! Jaguar almost sued Mercury for the cat emblem similarities but I'm not sure what happened! 1969-'70 Mercury Cougar was the cozy, yet roomier version of the smaller Mustang! They were the true essence of a sporty personal luxury car, with adequate performance options! The proportions were all correct and the styling and details were on point!

Mercury had a hit with the Cougar even though it was never as big as the Mustang. The colors with the Eliminator package on this car are fantastic. I believe this 302 engine is the high performance version but Mercury also made the 351 and 428 available in the eleminator package. The owner would do well at the MCACN and or SEMA shows.

The boss 302 was the option motor. 351 Cleveland's and 428 cj were the norm. A rare time when the option motor was rated less horse power than the regular issue.

My Brother had a 69 couger eliminator with a radical dual quad (Shelby intake) and it ran like a wild big block. He was getting divorced and sold it for less than 15 grand. Numbers matching 4 speed traction lock car. Orange and gorgeous.

This is my favorite pony car ever made by Ford. I'd take a Boss 302 Cougar over a Boss 302 Mustang any day of the week. The Mustang was probably a shade quicker because it was a bit lighter but the Cougar was a much nicer car overall than the Mustang was back then. And the Boss 302 Cougars are way more rare than the Boss 302 Mustangs...probably because the Cougar was a more expensive car

Lou, I have an suggestion of an interesting car you might like to highlight. It’s a very low mile 69 Firebird convertible , original owner lady owns it. She was featured in a news article. I can send you what information I have and you will need to do the homework to contact her. Need toto keep this info out of public view so do you have an email or Facebook I can PM you ? Thx, Portland, Oregon has our weekly Wednesday car shows in one area, w Drags in another area, bikes show , live band and beer garden etc. It is held at PIR (Portland International Raceway). Next week July 24th looks like a super nice warn sunny day, in case you were looking for the new place to view cars. Lots of them in this area. Fact I know a local guy with an Ultra Rare 427 Mercury I believe 1 of 6 cars, you might like to feature too. He lives in this local area so plenty opportunity here for new stuff.

By the way this is one of my fave FoMoCos so splitting hairs! .My fave is 302 Chevy Large journal.(average of 390-410hp without supertune or blueprint carb and distributor. Love these Cougars!
