Assembling continues with the steering column. First let's get all the stalks installed, get our brackets ready and install everything under the dash.

I don't remember TR-2-3 &4 steering being that difficult, but then when I was working on those cars I was a lot younger 😅.. Excellent video Elin, and very enjoyable watching you work out how it eventually went together.

You have sent us a great amount of your knowledge in this video. You have made the steering column just another piece of the car instead of being a mystery.

Interesting question about the steering lock. My January 1970 Heritage Certificate actually mentions ‘steering lock’ as a separate factory fitment. Not sure if this was an option, or a North American market standard fitment? Interesting that it’s specifically mentioned though. Unfortunately my car was butchered with a Small Block Chevy and they mounted the ignition switch in the plinth housing, so not sure where my actual ignition switch was originally. Ignition on the dash and a separate steering lock? Don’t think so, but who knows. Thanks for covering all that switch stuff too. I had a ‘73 before and didn’t realize I should expect a different layout now.

The US Congress mandated locking steering columns for 1970. The ignition switch for the 69 NA spec cars was on the center plinth/console. Triumph dutifully implemented a locking ignition switch on the steering column located between the knees. You need have a rubber arm to reach around the steering wheel to access the key. What I do is reach through the steering wheel spokes. It seems a little easier for me.

I am at a loss for words about your generosity in the philosophy expressed at the end of the video. You are one of a kind, and hence deserving of support.

my 69 TR6 has only one tie rod, bolted same way as you have. The 'flash to pass' feature relies on a small plastic tab, that's easily broken. You're best to use the floor switch.

Hi Elin thanks for your videos and for sharing your knowledge. I have the problem you mentioned with the horn on my Spitfire mk3. Means that if I want to check the wires I have to take everything out? By the moment I just disconnect the wire under the bonet cause it was horning with almost every turn... Thank you very much!!

Maybe those two soft foam rounds are just draught excluders to stop draughts and fumes coming into the cockpit from the engine bay? ( I don’t know)..

Over the years some errors have crept into the documentation. Unfortunately for us, there is no Stanpart controlling the documentation. The “H” support is used on the early cars. The early cars (69-72) used the upper support strut only. I suspect these error snuck in when the early car and late car drawings were consolidated to show all of the part early and late on the same drawing. It takes a wary technician to sleuth out these things.

Wow! Fitting the steering on the TR6 is just as bad as doing the GT6. I hate having to disconnect the steering column.

The a that you used to cover the wires from the light switch, OD switch, etc. doesn't look the same as the one in the schematic (123), there was a clamp attached to it (not seperate).

Yeah, I think they added that clamp in the later years. I’ve seen it with and without the clamp
