I was there in the van craze of the 70's in California. This brought back memories. If ya want the cool custom look of those days you are on the right track ditching the running boards and the mud flaps. Sidepipes are a must, the ones we liked were the ones with the fake header collectors up front but any will do...I am sure that someone someplace is selling fiberglass fender flares to cover those big slots, which are exactly the right move. Flares were the deal back then. That roof vent I saw JD looking at was called a "super scoop", that took me back, LOL. hunt around and find a piece of paneling and getcha some new door panels. This is going to be fun to watch.

This is a really nice find. Also, I've heard from older gents of how the HEI distributor will just keep working even with half of it crumbled away or broken, the spark just finds the right way to the wires. As for the van, lose the running boards and keep the dark blue stripes and leave it in it's 2WD configuration. That would be a nice daily driver if the air conditioning worked. I would totally drive it. Thanks for taking us along in this nice video.

Back in the mid to late 80's, I had a 1976 Dodge van, and when I had to do some work on the engine, I would pull off the bumper, grill and core support. Was it a lot of extra work? YES, but it did make the work I had to do suck A LOT less. I like this van a lot more than I expected to. One of the really cool things about it, is that it has a two tire fryer on the butt end of it. I think a 4X4 conversion would make it much much better. Leave the running boards on, and give it a fresh paint job. I'd really like to see your painting skills get pushed to a whole new 1970's psychedelic level, of course keeping it with the blue theme it already has going on. BTW, it was really nice to meet your friend Jessie, I hope I spelled her name right. It was nice to see a fresh new smile on your channel.

When I was a kid, there was a young guy in our neighborhood who started a van conversion company out of his garage in the mid 1970s here in Pennsylvania. He called it classic vans with a K. Just like that clock in the van. This would’ve been about the right time. About five years later his business expanded to a multi bay facility and he called it celebrity coach in the 80s. he was doing major van customization and enlarging them for Wealthy folks including Middle East oil barons and other folks but by the late 80s, the custom van craze with individual folks was long gone and only the business left was the limos, then he sold the business.
