You ladies are amazing I love both the makes just love that fact that you ladies went for the 70s and what a joy to see you ladies wearing what you have made. Beautiful fantastico. Love to see more. You are so right Vintage patterns are slightly smaller but I believe they can be graded to fit you. I love it I will wear it and I will be honest with you much better than the shop bought outfits and you ladies paid a great detail on how to get it right. I do have a few vintage patterns from my mum. You stitch sisters have inspired me to get them out and start sewing one or too. You both look adorable and stylish in any era clothing. I feel more inspired personally to make something if it's a pattern that I can purchase and create something similar to what you're wearing. On the other hand, I have enough inspiration to last several months and your vintage era pattern makes are a wonderful diversion! It's a delight to see the old patterns again a few of which I or my mom/aunt probably created ourselves in that era. Create whatever your little hearts desire and we'll just keep watching!

You are both looking very groovy! I have a few vintage patterns, at least one each from the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. So far the only ones I have sewn are 70's nightgowns, with contemporary fabrics, but vintage rick rack or lace for embellishment, as a nod to the era. My favorite eras are the 20's and 30's. I would like to see you make more vintage patterns. I don't want to grade either so I will only make true vintage patterns if I can find them in my size which is not super easy. I would use modern reissues but I rarely see styles I love. Thanks for sharing.

This is "slow" sewing. It is something you have to think about, make choices and apply skills. So the making of era patterns will open up your, and our, skills. I love the pattern matching. I was a teenager, early twenties in the 70's - would never have been as brave with wearing such a wide dress.

Both your dresses are beautiful. Love both fabric choices. I sewed a blouse in that exact navy and red stripe in the 80's. Lol. I still have in my stash the stripped fabric in shades of pink and white. Not sure what to sew, perhaps a jacket!

Love it! I've got many vintage patterns, some in my size, and find they have a lot of ease to play with. So it's great to see you making up your patterns and the suggestions you make are really valuable. I don't use my 'special' fabric on the first go but I do like my first attempt to be wearable if possible. I make the tweaks and decide if it's worth making again. Yours are definite winners! The 70s were a great period for fashion and your fabric choices were fab! Cheers!

I am "Sew Proud" 🤣 that you girls finally sewn a vintage garment on your channel! 👏 I am not sure why people have fitting issues with Big 4 pattern company's 🤷 that is all I see with. Simplicity is my favorite & Vintage Reproduction Is really popular right now in the United States. Stylist's and Designers always squeeze a little retro detail in from other decades. That is one reason I would like to Challenge you two Sew a Garment from every decade!! Start with the 20's & work your way up to the 90's! How Fun would that be??? Cannot wait to see your makes 👩🎤

Great job, girls! I grew up in the seventies, I'm pretty sure I won't be revisiting that decade, but never say never! Nikki's dress could have been designed in 2019, and truthfully, with a small collar change, so could Rachel's. Rachel, I think that dress will keep you toasty all winter, and would look cute over jeans, too, don't you think?
@susanmazzanti56435 жыл бұрын
When I sewed patterns like those, I bought them new and it was what was available. I started making clothing in about 1950. The patterns came in large sheets and you cut the pieces you needed out to lay it out for cutting. At some point they changed the sizing and that makes it harder to buy them. Half sizes used a slightly different size range than full sizes.

In my memory , the half sizes were not between 14 and 16 sizes, they were shorter waisted but the same circumference. I think it didn’t last long because a seamstress could easily shorten with a diagonal line from center front or back to side seam. I don’t remember when those lines became standardized.

That was fun and interesting. Applaud you both for pulling it of. Bit too 70s (in dress-up way; sorry) for me. Apparently comfortable but not flattering if you ask me. But hey, liked how much you both enjoy it. Like a bit of vintage every now and than. But hope there will be enough modern sewing to balance it out. Really like the battles and (current) pattern reviews (like the mens sewing series). Loved the autumn version of your plans where you looked at the trends and choose patterns and fabrics to sew. Still hope for a video (evaluation & lookbook) with the results. Understand if the start-up of the online classes got in the way. Will you be doing a new plans series for SS? Would love it. But again understand if priorities lay elsewhere.
@lilybogaards50895 жыл бұрын
Oh, also loved the fabrics series. Very informative. Saved them in a watchlist to refer to whenever I need to. Same with the zipper insertions. Thank you! By the way, would mind paying for access to a library of these kind of technical videos. There is a lot avaible on YT but often hard to find and not all of the search finds are the clear helpful ones (like yours! Really). Especially now that I am venturing into self-drafting my patterns, I would like a data base with technical construction info. Have some books, but like seeing how it’s actually done in a video. Could just be cut-outs of the classes you are already producing. Know from experience how much work creating (and sustaining,) a good searchable data base is, but wouldn’t it be a great resource?

I wore a trapeze dress, and a Laura Ashley maxi among other floaty nos around at the time. They were really useful when I became pregnant again, I'd worn them before, no one realised, which was fine as I'd problems after my 1st one, so was pretty far on when those other than family realised, I was pretty neat. He was 6 weeks early, 6lbs 13ozs, at 4'10" my sister thought it was an easier birth, no, he had same size head as my 1st at 8lbs 4ozs. Those dresses had their uses as they hid a multitude of sins after 😁. You did have to watch them when it was windy though, you could easily be left with the skirt blowing up round you, definitely not dresses to wear with panties that were ready for the bin 😮😲🙄 Would love to see 50/60/70s I had 60/70/80s clothes until I think 1990, had to let them go to move into a caravan to build. Still have most my shoes though some were sneakily removed, including my Mary Quant Yellow/Orangey Red ones, pristine condition too. There was almost a divorce.... 😁

Love your dresses. I was in my early 20s in early 70s in Columbus, Ohio w no snow and wore tiny mini dresses to the office. One day a girlfriend and I showed up in purple print dresses we made from the same pattern. Lol no one noticed. Couple years later moved to Cleveland just before a famous blizzard winter. I went from polyester pant suits to long wool suits in executive offices and quit sewing dresses till my 1st born in 1984. A Barbie Doll gown took as long as aa adult mini dress. Tho I now weigh same as at 24 nowhere are the measurements similar. Only buy special occasion dresses now but your tips help me in more casual sewing😀
