This was the first quilt book I bought in 1979 (along with 5 detailing other crafts). I didn't get into real quilt making until the 1990's when I was able to take classes. I know this would be an exciting quilt for my youngest granddaughter who is 11. 1970's flower power would be perfect! Interesting to see others who have this book, especially the ones who bought it new!

Thanks for your special quilt tutorial, as a child of the 1960's and 70's I don't think we realised how special that time was. Your quilt reminded me of the dresses my mum used to make me. I still love flowers and paisley prints. How awesome would a layer of paisley petals look I wonder . 🇦🇺💜🇺🇲💚👍🖐😊

I got blessed with this book at a Saver's thrift store just yesterday. Has some super quilts in it. Like all of them. I really like the Star of Bethlehem, Lonestar, curtains and the puff quilt. The flower patterns are different than the one you have but the same idea. Thanks for calling attention to this book.

I, like Tiffany immediately of doing this on my longarm. Nana made a quilt like this with all sorts of leftovers from garment sewing . No batting just a heavy yellow/orange broadcloth backing with a massive 3inch wide binding wrapped around to the front. xxx

If I could give you more than one thumbs up I would. Absolutely love the quilt. I have always loved primary and jewel toned colors so your quilt speaks to me. So very 70s, took me back to flower power and Goldie Hawns body paint on Rowan and Martins Laugh In. My sister and I used to paint those flowers on on legs for fun. One time my mother sent us to the store with our legs painted with flowers. I also had some bell bottoms with that same floral pattern. Loved the quilt and the video. Thanks for the 70s flashback

I just had an idea 💡: If we used a coordinating fabric for the underlayment, it wouldn’t matter if there were a few spots that came uncovered when the flowers lifted up or frayed. It wd cost a little more than muslin, but not that much and think of the savings in time, if you didn’t have to cut patches to cover every little spot or edge of the quilt! I just watched your video again, and your quilt came out much prettier than the one in the book, for some reason! I also had that Georgia Bonesteel book, too, until my apt flooded and I lost all my quilting books. I believe hers was from the 80’s or early 90’s, if I recall. I just wanted to say, thanks for sharing this with us. I get very overwhelmed with life’s problems. But your video cheered me up and got me excited about something; got my creative juices flowing; and that was enough to get me over the hump!🌷💝🌷
@TheSewingChannel
@TheSewingChannel Жыл бұрын
Yes Susan-I had thought about using something other than muslin too....in the end I only fixed those 2 spots that I showed in the vid✅ I'm thinking it might be too heavy with a better fabric other than muslin. With the top, muslin, batting and the minky it is a substantial weight....more like a winter quilt for sure. Life can be so heavy-I totally get it....quilting is definitely a type of mental therapy❤️ Keep your creative mind flowing and keep out all the crazy stuff! Have an awesome quilting week Susan!!💛

This quilt reminds me of a cover my mom and I made, it definitely wasn't a quilt, but it was in the 70's. It had colorful flowers all over and was in the great colors of the times. What a great memory! I love your quilt I appreciate you sharing it with us and the templates too! You rock Tracy!

Wow, it's groovy! Peace to Flower Power! I love it. So bright and vibrant. Love your minky idea. At first, I was thinking when you raw sewed the edges that I would prefer the flowers to be zigzagged down around the edges, but after seeing it in the raw it looks better than I first thought. Thanks for sharing this with us. I really enjoyed this Tracy.

Thank you for all of the kind feedback Sue💛. Raw edge applique with no fusibles makes for an extremely soft, drapey quilt. Some don't like the raw edges but if they cuddled with one they may just change their mind lol😆
