You can glue baste the squares on the corners. Just a small drop of washable glue heat set with the iron keeps the squares from shifting and the pins won't be in the way way.

I'm really not a fan of the star block, but I really like yours because of the spinning effect of the star. Much nicer and more interesting to look at than a regular star block. I did notice sweet little Josie's voice in the background, and also how sick you sound. Poor you! As soon as you are able, tuck yourself into bed and sleep off your cold so that you'll be able to enjoy the holiday weekend. Have your hubby make or buy some gourmet chicken soup for you. Thanks for another great tutorial, Tracy!!!! 🥰

@@TheSewingChannel Hey Tracy: I've decided that I want to use this Orient Star block pattern to make a full quilt, with different colors of stars. It will be a work in progress over time. Would use complimentary printed fabric scraps for the star points, and then use a complimentary plain colored fabric for the inside (snowball) area. It would make for a simple, beautiful, colorful quilt. I've got a g'zillion fat quarters that I've purchased at JoAnn's and WalMart over the years that I really need to use in a quilt project, so this would be a great block pattern to do this with. I want a sewing project that I can pick up and work on for 15 to 30 mins. at a time, which should be about the time it takes to make a block or two if the fabric is pre-cut and ready to sew. 🙂 I would think I could easily produce 20 to 30 blocks over the course of a few months - maybe eventually make a quilt 5 blocks x 7 blocks. Would be fun to make a scrappy piano keyboard border (5" wide) with the same fat quarter fabric used to make all the blocks, to get use them up and make the quilt more colorful. 😃

Thank you for stopping by Becky!🌸 No, I'm sorry I do not. Maybe in the future🤷🏻♀️
@b.a.erlebacher11392 жыл бұрын
I've made this block by making half square triangles from one fabric, and triangles of half background half the other fabric and assembling them with a partial seam around the centre octagon. This method uses less fabric (no scraps) and no tricky matching. You don't get that nice floating effect of the white around the outside, and stars are rotated 45 degrees from your blocks so you'd have add a border and set the blocks on point to be identical, but I like both final blocks
@TheSewingChannel2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for all of that info...I appreciate it✅ I like the spinning effect of this block for sure!🌸
@b.a.erlebacher11392 жыл бұрын
Sorry, it was a long time ago and my description isn't correct. What you do is cut an octagon with all sides of equal length. Then you cut a square of each color and two squares of background diagonally twice. Sew each background triangle to a color triangle, the color triangle always on the same side. Then assemble these large pieced triangles around the octagon using a partial seam. The result is a large octagon which you can make into a square by adding small triangles to four corners. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. I hope I got the instructions right this time! I'll have to make one to be sure.
@TheSewingChannel2 жыл бұрын
I actually knew exactly what you meant B.A. ✅ You are describing the “y” seam method? Right? 💛
@b.a.erlebacher11392 жыл бұрын
@@TheSewingChannel No y seams, a partial seam. I wish I could send you a picture. You start with an octagon with 8 equal sides, and 8 triangles,each half color and half background. You sew the color part of the long side of the triangle to the octagon with a partial seam. The next triangle is then sewn to the octagon and straight along the side of the first triangle. Repeat until the 8th triangle then complete the partial seam. You then have the star in an octagon. The triangles are made by sewing together 2 quarter squares, one color and one background, with the color always on the same side. This may not be a "real" orient star, but block names are so slippery, different names for the same block, and different blocks with the same name, so who knows? IIRC, I actually made this block long ago to get a symmetric 8-point star, like a Lemoyne star, without needing any y seams. I didn't make it up, I got it out of a book! I'm less afraid of y seams now, but still prefer to avoid them!

You sound like you are about to loose your voice. I loose my voice, for a day or two, after mowing the grass (and I ware a mask while mowing). Just hearing that baby girl's voice made my day a happy one. I think a fussy cut print rose in the center of this block would be a knockout (with that star as a frame). I have never tried making one of these blocks; because, it looks to hard. I may give this a good try. Thank you. Hug that baby girl for me, please. Last night's storm really did a job on my real Knockout Roses. It looks like a football team stomped through them. I'll have to prune them some more, if the sun doesn't help them stand up again. More rain and storms for today are expected.

@debbiestallard69411 ай бұрын
Hi. I have a possible hack to make this easier. Go ahead and sew the star legs first. Lay the blocks out. In the center block just pin the stitch and flip fabric in place and place in the center location. Then take a ruler and a frixion pen and align the ruler along the star leg extending into the center and mark that intersection on the back of the stitch and flip fabric. Then repeat on all corners. Then put your block together. ❤️
