The tires wouldn't have helped , the Hemi is making a lot more HP than the max wedge. I have a set of hemi heads that flow 375cfm with not a lot of work done to them from as they were delivered on my circa 2005 MP crte hemi 426. I don't think it's posible to get close to that on a max effort set of stock part number iron max wedge heads.

Hard for me to believe how hard that Cuda left on that size tire and then still held traction with the power it was putting down at the bottom end of the track. Calculated from ET and speed it's putting out over 800 hp. That thing is insanely fast. The Savoy was fast too but well you go tweaking on a Hemi it's gonna be hard to beat even if it's heavier. Thanks for the vid it was fun to watch. I prefer the other class though. Seems it would be a little more fair.

@@danmyers9372 I recall seeing a video about the tires being fairly prepped, in spite of their 'stock' look. I forgot the name of the channel, but it's based around a guy racing a '69 ZL1 Camaro in this class, and his dad races a '69 L88 Corvette in the same class. I recall one episode where he explained how the tires are prepped. Very interesting class of racing compared to all the highly prepped, obviously modified classes of racing (e.g. big fat wheels and tires out back with skinny racing wheels and tires up front). I would love to see a series of FAST class racing over a week like the drag weeks. Driving xxxx miles from city to city and racing in the day.

Yeah those LOOK like regular Goodyear Polyglas but they are made with softer sidewalls and a lot softer tread compound. There is a lot of time and money invested in ignition timing timers to get the power to the ground and not blow the tires off. That's the biggest part of it, along with a lot of shock absorber experience.

You don't have to do much to a stock appearing second gen Hemi to double and triple it's horsepower and torque. The design is unbeatable when building power. No other big block has surpassed 10,000 HP in rails, etc. Simply put; Mopar or no car. Malcolm Ottawa Valley

The engines run in nitro cars don’t have a single MOPAR part in them. They are all custom billet engines. Real MOPAR Hemi engines haven’t been run in TF cars since the ‘70’s.

@@danmyers9372 "the DESIGN is unbeatable when building power". Top fuel utilized one manufacturer's engineering and it was the Mopar second generation Hemi(and the first gen before it;392/354/331). Ain't no Chev-a-lay engines in top fuel. Never was. Never will be. As far as engines that have to appear stock, there is no other engine that can produce that kind of power, as witnessed by the nine second pass on stock appearing tires.

The F.A.S.T. racers have spent a lot of time and effort getting their cars to work on those tires. Horsepower Depot shows a lot of the behind the scenes work on their channel. They have a 1969 Camaro and a few Corvettes and run even faster than the Cuda.

The Hemi that replaced the wedge was in fact a Race Hemi. The street Hemi like in that Cuda didn’t come out until ‘66, Those Race Hemis used a cross ram like on the wedge. The 413’s were used ‘62-‘63, and the 426 ‘63-‘64. When that race Hemi hit in ‘65 it was game over. Although they were not really sold in street cars tho. Not sure of the 426 wedge but the Maxie 413 had an 11.5:1 for 415 HP and a 13.5:1 good for 420 HP.
