A '71 455 GP as your first car at age 16 makes you one lucky guy. A true pinnacle of GM automotive design. Only downside would be the 10 mpg in times of rising gas prices, but that could be mitigated with income adjustment. Super fine machine, you deserve to be proud of it.

Pontiac was always my favorite GM division. I still feel like GM should've axed Buick instead of Pontiac. No idea why they felt like they needed 2 luxury car manufacturers (Cadillac, Buick) I feel like Pontiac definitely built the best high performance engines out of all the GM divisions, at least in the old days they did, and had the coolest styling too

Back in the early 80s, maybe 1980-82 my parents had friends that had a 1971 Pontiac Gran Prix in black and a 1971 Chevy Impala two door hardtop in white. I remember my mother commenting on the fact that they drove such "old cars". Back then I thought they were cool cars and could not understand her sentiment. She however said the same thing about my brother in law's 1970 Chevelle SS 396 convertible (which was sadly totalled in 1985) and my brothers 1969 Pontiac LeMans.

Nice ride Lou, Back in the day when U.S. car companies were still building unique style... Interestingly the wrap-around cockpit type front dash and interior design were quite similar to the '71-74 AMC Javelin's. I could understand if either builder premiered it first then to have it imitated but to have that similar a deisgn debut together for the same model is a strange coincidence...

Externally these cars were midsized but marketed as full sized...rightfully so because the 69 thru 72 models were highly styled. The restyled 73s went down market and shared essentials with the Olds Cutless Supreme and Buick Regal. The 69s thru 72 vehicles were much more prestigious.

Fab car! Interesting how the front interior styling has a similar cockpit profile to the '71 AMC Javelin - both the same year so unlikely there was copycatting with the design? A coincidence?

Nice car, and extra clean under the hood. The fan shroud looks new. I wonder if that's original or a factory spec aftermarket. The shrouds really do show their age, but this one doesn't. The air cleaner looks fantastic, another piece that's more of a challenge to look completely original and brand new. BTW camera guy, Do Not touch anything. (you should know) This owner invested large amounts of time and money into the car. That nice finish on the condenser can be marred by the oil and acid, and salt from human fingers.. from that pizza or salt from that bag of chips you had on the way to the show! (yeah y'know!)

Pontiac owned the personal luxury segment during that era. Only issue for me was that the horsepower rating on the stock 400 engine went from 350 to 200 as economy concerns became more or an issue
