Ah, that classic CBS NFL theme. My dad took me to this game. It was amazing how quickly the Colts declined after years of winning football. Old age finally caught up with them in 1972.

Morton was on fire here. Loved the color contrast of these teams' uniforms. If only Dallas had worn white in SB V!

Still would have lost

@@michaelbenedict7809think Staubach would have won. The Dallas D dominated most of the game, and Morton started the game injured (wrist, and it showed). If nothing else, Staubach's scrambling would have picked up enough first downs to control the clock more to win. Moreover while Staubach in 1970 wasn't the HOF QB he would become, he had already started and played entire games for Dallas and it wasn't like he was some untried rookie.

1:11 Did you see how hard Unitas fired the ball back at referee Jim Tunney? Tunney didn't penalize Johnny U., realizing how frustrated the GOAT QB (sorry not sorry Brady) was.

An era ended with this game. This was the final game Unitas started for the Colts.

I remember Johnny U's last touchdown as a Colt later in the season against Buffalo. I was lucky enough to go his last start when the Steelers hosted the Chargers. Even spoke with him on the field before the game.

Name a play when the Cowboys were on defense where Jethro Pugh wasn’t destroying Unitas or anyone who had the football. He was dominating the game.

Frustrating season for the Colts. They'd always won and usually dominated, especially defensively. Now, all was going poorly.

Good lord, Jethro Pugh had a game. No wonder the Colts lineman wanted to fight him (another video). Sellers was a really really good possession receiver who could slip open 20 yards down field, but those types went out of fashion for a bit startling in the 1970s.

I think this game could have been called the Jethro Pugh, Calvin Hill and Drew Pearson show!

That wasn't Drew Pearson, but Ron Sellers #88

@@howardcosell2022 Thanks for the correction. Drew Pearson was a rookie then in 1973, no? (His TD in the playoff game against the Rams iced the victory for Dallas).
