Beautiful Survivor. I hope nobody customizes it!!!! I stumbled onto a 1969 Blazer, 350 , 4 Speed, 4 X 4 with 16,000 documented miles. The Protecto Plate shows the original sales date of ( 8-28-69 ) First or second month of production for 1ST Gen Blazers. I will never change a thing on it.

My dad bought one of these brand new back in '72, the same color! His Blazer wasn't the custom version though, it didn't have all of the moldings on it. It was a 4-speed manual just like this one, except that you drove it like a 3-speed. The first gear was like a Granny low gear. Amazing that the steering wheel is still good on this one, they usually cracked after awhile.

This Blazer is 3 speed Automatic. Notice the Drive, Low2, and low1?
@bravobravoh13442 жыл бұрын
@@time69bandit16 yes, my miswording. I meant to say the same truck except it had a manual transmission. Also, his had a 307 as opposed to this one with the 350.

@@time69bandit16 no, it was unfortunately sold back in 1980. I have never forgotten it though, it's a treasured memory of my childhood. Still have some photos of it thankfully.

I had the 72 k5 Blazer 4×4 about 30 years ago it had a 3 speed on the column i can't remember what engine was in it but i sold it because it was rusted out. I miss that truck and I'm sure i will never be lucky enough to own another one because you just can't find them anymore except in junkyards.

I see it was built in Flint Mi, I was always told that Flint never made a 4WD Blazer?? Flint Truck and Bus only made the 72 model year and then they made Blazers ,Suburbans and trucks until 1987. I noticed it has a 71 Grill??? and normally CST Blazers have the entire Firewall undercoated from the Factory?? Maybe the just the St. louis factory ( which built them from startup 69-72) did that? Also notice it still has the factory upper radiator hose assembly, a 3" rubber hose from the engine, going into a curved piece of steel pipe, then another section of rubber ( 7" ) attached to the radiator. Very cool old truck.
@chefboyardeeznutsinyourmouth2 жыл бұрын
Flint definitely did 4WD Blazers. And the grille between 71-72 are the same by the looks of it. You can tell the truck is from Flint because it has a single-wall top. Most of the ones that came out of Flint in 72 had it, but the St. Louis ones all have double-wall tops, even in 72. I assume either GM or whoever ran the line at Flint was testing them out, as they switched to all having single-wall tops for the 2nd generation of Blazers iirc. The single-walls are more sought after because you don't have to take the plastic piece that covers the quarter panels from the interior off to take the top off, as the double-wall top had captured nuts that go up through the bottom of the quarter panel, whereas the single-wall one just had holes and the captured nuts would be in the fender instead, so you could just undo the bolt on the top side without having to take anything off.

@@chefboyardeeznutsinyourmouth Thanks for the info about the tops, I didn't know that. If you look closely , all 71 and 72 grills have a square around the headlight bezel, 71 will have a black square and 72 the square will be chrome just like the rest of the grill.
@chefboyardeeznutsinyourmouth2 жыл бұрын
@@time69bandit16 Hmm, interesting info about the grills, but I don't believe it's correct. I've been working on my father's 1972 Blazer (only two owners, so we know what parts are original on it) and the grill has the black surrounding you speak of, but I am 99% certain it is the original grill that was sold with the vehicle. However, I believe it was produced in the first half of 72 (will have to check the sticker that has the date), so could it maybe be possible that the factories were just using up the older parts they had on-hand before swapping to the ones with the chrome around the headlights as you mention? Also, one other thing I want to mention about the tops, is that they were outsourced and not made in-house by GM. So in regards to my earlier guess about why Flint was using single-wall tops, it's also possible they were using/switched to a different supplier in 72.
@time69bandit162 жыл бұрын
@@chefboyardeeznutsinyourmouth Thanks for the info, that could be why your 72 has the black around headlight. I have an original 71 CST and it has the black around the headlights. is your 72 a CST? Maybe that's why both have that style ??? The only thing I can find on how to distinguish between a 71 and 72 that is documented is that 71's have the rearview mirror attached to the steel above the windshield, and starting in 72 they were glued onto the windshield. I noticed the black around the headlight myself and checked through many pictures trying to prove that theory.

How can you tell the build date? I don't see anything on the glovebox sticker or the plate in the drivers door frame? And if i remember right the only thing etched in the drivers side frame rail is the Plant code and Vin# .

Bro, it's literally removable. Loosen the hose clamp and your panties won't be in a twist anymore. And if you knew a morsel about what you're talking about, you'd know this is a pristine example of a 1972 Blazer, especially with the CST package.
