Good luck with your restoration, Dr. Lee. I have a story. (I always do) Back in '61 my family moved across country to a suburb in Orange County, CA. I was nine years old. One of our neighbors about 6 houses down would restore cars from the early 20th century. 1900-1920's. Every so often I'd see him drive a flatbed truck past the house with a beat up shell of a car. I don't know how long it took him to restore cars as I'm sure I missed him passing the house 90% of the time but when he was done, if I were lucky and standing outside when he passed by, I'd see a beautifully restored, to my eyes, museum piece. Occasionally I'd ride my bike or our car would drive past his house. His garage door would be open and I'd see him working away day and night.

I think many of us probably know or remember someone like that. Sadly here we are streng verboten to do anything that leaves the car inoperable overnight. Nice having enough land so nobody can tell what you're up to.

Most importantly, Dr. Lee, I am so glad for you that you are fulfilling a lifelong dream. Your expertise and knowledge just simply amaze me. I think that's why I find this restoration so interesting. It's good to see you making the most of your ranch and rescuing those old cars. Those of us who didn't grow up wealthy learned a lot by having to keep ancient pieces of automotive technology running because we couldn't afford better. That's why my dad taught me how to fix cars, and I taught my son.

Same here. I was raised fairly poor. We had "enough" but that was it. If I couldn't fix my car, I had to walk.....Learned to be an "okay" mechanic, plumber, electrician, framer, drywall, mason, etc.... Taught my boys the same too!

I remember back in the fifties and sixties young guys would take an old car and get them running. Annie laid back to the topic, I will try to watch all your videos now, I always watched everyone but then I was sick and life got in the way. But I am back and we'll be watching again. And believe it or not for an old lady I am very interested in watching rebuild this. What year is it? If you did say I Missed it So good luck and I still love you. ♥️

We all need something to do as we get older. Working on a 23 year old dream, seems to me like the perfect thing, to me at least. The old Ford Broncos are really nice, however the old Blazers and Suburbans, and some International Rigs are cool... I had a buddy that had a 69 or 70 Blazer, that was light blue with the white top, and it was very cool. I lived in Idaho at the time and had a 1972 AMX javelin it was the odd but I bought it for 500 bucks and I thought it was way cool.. (I wish I still had it) I think we all will love these videos. I know I will.. God bless you Lee and your loved ones Godspeed

Burst out laughing when you said “I did the right thing and threw a bunch of money at it”. I completely agree that was the right thing to do! You seem to be a doer rather than a watcher but just in case, here’s my favorite channels for just this type of thing….Fab Rats, Matt’s Off Road Recovery, Merlin’s Old School Garage. If you’re interested in recovery videos in beautiful country by skilled people rescuing “knuckleheads” ( my sisters term), the first two above plus Casey La Delle and Trail Mater. Casey is in Oregon and the others are in southern Utah. Now back to finish watching your video. PS as an almost 71 old lady who’s physical and cognitive functioning have been going downhill more rapidly, I am definitely a watcher now. So especially grateful for your wonderful videos on all subjects! 👌💕👏💕👍

I’ve always had a true soft spot for the 1st generation K-5 Blazers. And their natural rival Broncos as well. A similar story really as I remember seeing a ‘rich kid’ in high school drive up in one that his dad had bought for him. Rough and ready, yet there’s something really beautiful about that design. Hard not to be a little bit envious. Awesome that you rescued this one from the pit it was trying to make for itself. Which ever way you go with restoring it, it’s hard to go wrong really. You can do just about anything imaginable to them & they’ll still look and perform great. I’m excited to see what y’all can do with it!

A man after my own heart. I bought a 1965 CORVAIR Corsa Covertable about 18 years ago. It had been broke down and I’m storage since 1968. I’ve named him Lazarus. As soon as I finish my barn project my first project is to bring him back to life. Unlike yours my classic has zero rust rot. But it will be a full restoration from the ground up. Right now he’s hanging from the ceiling by some 1 1/2” nylon rope. Keep those updates coming brother!😉

Dr Lee… I’m Kevin. Hi… My dad had 4 boys and when we all got older, we’re told to buy our own cars & insure them…So….My first was a $30.00 Chevy Malibu…( good thing I took auto shop ) and learned to buy decent Craftsman Tools because stitches cost $$$. Mi intro, forgive me …Then I fell in love with a 1968 Ford Ranchero…. Well, it was worth all the pain . Hard to drive because the original 390 engine was swapped out for a 302…the owner of this vehicle was the son of the Mom & Pop auto parts store I worked for and did not want to sell it to me. But this was my love ! and I got the parts at a discounted price. 1980’s … heck I was makin $ 4.00 an hour or less…. Weeeeee. It was basically a ford fairlane but a Ranchero…. I brazed a new floor in the front., in Auto shop, fixed the 4 speed front I put shaft bearing and drove it everywhere. Oh boy do I still miss that 68 Ford Ranchero. Not very good in the snow up in Northern , N.J…Well, Good luck with that Wild Lee Brody truck…All the best ! Oh, I’ve had 25+ cars since that Ranheroo… Today os a 2000 Subaru with 94k…AWD. And a 2022 650 Ninja…. Keep that green ! My Ranchero was Forest Green…

Dr. Lee, that wasn't boring at all. What I was thinking was, "like son, like father!" ;-) Matt spent a couple of years renovating that abandoned mansion. As I recall, there were several moments in that process where he was saying, "what in the world have I gotten myself into?" Yet look at him now. I think I can speak for a number of folks subscribed to your feed when I say, "I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out." That said, if you do wade through all this and get the Blazer working, that'll be great. But if you ultimately decide this isn't worth the trouble in time and cost, no one will fault you for that one either. Waiting and watching!

💯 ❤️ Love it! My 1st Blazer was an 87' S-10, My 2nd was a 92 K-1500, and my 3rd was an 89' K5, But i've always wanted a 1st Gen With a full removable roof, same story here for me Dr. Lee, I saw a guy in high school with a beautiful, bright red one I would have loved to had... Unfortunately, he took it out to what we call the old brickyard because that's what it is, and he destroyed it. He rolled it over, however, he used the frame and built a sort of monster truck back then which did give him the start to his life career, and he's currently just now moving into retirement from being a professional monster truck driver. Shout out to Larry Quick, Quick Motorsports. One time, back in college, when I had my S-10, I saw an old S-10 GMC Jimmy with the whole roof off, I don't know if it was a custom or limited edition. If anyone knows anything about them, let me know, as I used to research it and never came up with anything back then so I think it was just custom but I always wondered about that, as it didn't look custom. Currently, I got an 07' Avalanche, which is nice. I love it with the removable back window and all, but still, a convertible 4x4 is just a super cool concept 😎, you're right!

Can't wait to watch you bring that Blazer back to life! You waited long enough to get your baby. I'm sure you'll get her going! ♥

I bought a 72 Jimmy new in 1972 in the midwest and my wife and i drove it to Alaska and used up there over three years. Great vehicle. Built in Flint, MI. 10 inch wide tires. Pulled Jeeps out of ditches.

Yaaay! Love the video! Although I used to work on cars in college, I never want to again but I enjoy what you’re doing. And a 23 year dream come true!! That’s great! As long as it brings you joy and does not adversely affect you or yours, then go for it! Money is meant to be spent!

Oh man, been waiting on this!!! Thank you!👍👍It's a crime, a felony that family left it to rot when all they had to do was cover it or garage it.

This is what I’ve been looking forward to. I’m glad you decided to do the restoration separately. Who knows, if it turns out good you might pickup your own show on the MotorTrend channel like the Holden Bros!

I had a neighbor in Blue Springs MO in the early 1970's that had a blazer that looked like the one you now have. He was very proud of it, and spent a lot of time washing, polishing, and waxing it. I hope you're able to get your Blazer patched back together and running again. It's a bigger challenge than I would choose, or be able to accept! My hat is off to you Dr Lee. You have a big job ahead of you! Barry

Just love the way you tell a story! I'm not necessarily a "car rebuild person" but I do enjoy all your videos. A fairly new subscriber so I have a lot of catching up to do.😎
