So it's a slightly changed Maverick ? My friend had a Maverick with a straight 6 .. it was a push start model the starter had gone bad..

Yup, that's it exactly. My grandparents' neighbor had one back when they were late models, and it was a pretty decent little runabout.

Fun to see this commercial. This series of Comets were “badge engineered “ Ford Mavericks . Where Maverick had been marketed as an economy car, it is interesting to see reliability/durability image being pushed for Comet.

My grandparents had a brown 1977 Mercury Comet coupe with the 302V8. It was an acceptable city car and not that expensive. But it was not the long distance highway cruiser that their previous car was (a 1972 Ford LTD).

it's 50 years ago, cars were very simple and very rare to find a car that could exceed 100 thousand miles....they required a lot more maintenance too. Things broke. ..cars were also extremely inexpensive. The Marverick's starting price in 1971 was 1995, the Comet a bit more but not more than 100 bucks. In today's dollars, that would be, under 15,000 bucks....try finding a car that can seat 6 people with four doors today for that price.
