1972 Sears Custom 10XL Garden Tractor Restoration Part 1

Shaw's Garage does a complete restoration of this vintage garden tractor. Sears tractors have been around awhile and the Custom line was introduced in the 60"s and ran through the 70's. Shaw will go through and show different parts of this multi part restoration.

Hi shaw. I dig what your doing to this 10xl. I just acquired one and an in the process of restoring it. I've been looking on how the steering wheel and shaft come apart. Curious if you have any input on how it is done. It looks like you pull the steering wheel off and then the shaft down and out. Is the bolt on the steering wheel just pressed in? And does the pinion gear on the bottom of the shaft stay on the shaft? Appreciate and help you can give. Thanks

I just pulled the dash off once the steering wheel was off. The steering wheel has a snap ring and key that holds it on. Which usually seizes up. Bad design. Lots of patience on this. The pinion gear is removable with a pin and ring.
