I so, so envy your workspace, Joel! I’m assuming a beer fridge is part of the fit-out? Looks like you’re settling in for a high-end, long-haul resto, which is good for all of us as we vicariously share in the process.

As high end as my skills will allow, I just want it done right and to learn some cool skills in the process. Just a fun hobby. This will definitely be a long haul, and I caught myself getting a little overwhelmed at the mountain ahead the other day, glad people are along for the ride! One step at a time, and a beer fridge would be perfect for guests. Thanks man, appreciate it!

Nice. The car has a lot of rare parts so look after 'em (2TG engine, long centre console, original shift knob etc), plus some good upgrades (koyorad radiator and looks like a fujitsubo exhaust plus efi on the 2TG) The original colour would be #308 brilliant persimmon, an iconic colour on the car as TE27's were also known as mangoes. If the diff is a TE27 6.7inch (T series) then the early type AE86 LSD will bolt straight in (may already be done considering the other upgrades). I believe Klassic fab vintage Jdm now sell replacement sill (rocker) panels and front guard bottoms which may help with your rust repairs. A lot of people use AE86 parts for upgrades to things like front coilovers and brake upgrades as they're still readily available and fit easily. Keep up the good work.
@sansberlin
@sansberlin Жыл бұрын
Exactly, I feel its all rare and in good condition, so i'm trying to keep it protected. Its interesting about the differential, because eventually I do want to swap it out to something with higher gears. I believe this diff is at a 4.1, and it screams down the highway. If I could find an AE LSD, it might be easier to get higher gears to a 3.2 or something so highway driving will be more comfortable. This is a lot of great information, I appreciate you sharing!

I watch a lot of KZbin builds and I think the most impressive part so far is hitting a home run with your first video and building an instant subscriber base. I’ve been building cars/motorcycles since 2007 but I prefer to watch people first builds. I don’t watch any big shop builds really at all. I’m always looking for the one guy building one car over the course of 1-2 years

Nice mods to the sand blast cabinet. Did the same to my Harbor Freight one. The lights will get frosted as will the viewing port. A copper line water trap works better as copper transfers the heat from the air better than plastic. 3 or 4 lengths of copper will get out most of the moisture.

I don’t even own a sand blasting cabinet but something I have always done to acrylic that could get things thrown at it/dirty is put a piece of clear film on it kind of like a tear off they use in some forms of racing that way the glass doesn’t get pitted. It’s cheaper to replace the film than to replace the sheet of acrylic/glass.

I am surprised the compressor doesn't have a bottom facing valve you can bleed to get rid of water.... as a mechanic, every single shop I worked at, the compressor had a bottom facing port you could bleed and a top port for feeding your lines.... I ended up bleeding the system at "the better shop" because no one had apparently done it.... it was wild how much water came out. And then the shitty shop I was stuck at for awhile we bleed every night and kept the compressor off at night and turning it on in the morning. and it ALWAYS had water coming out which was wild. while the better shop, even though it had never been bled for a long time, we still technically didn't have water in lines because each port in each bay had its own water filter which would auto drip the water out. which was wild. the bad shop, no matter how much bleeding you did, water was ALWAYS in the lines. and of course management wouldn't let us replace the system because "fuck you".... lmao. you probably noticed, slow and steady with the sand blaster. you don't have to move fast. think of it like painting, slow and smooth. "nice even coats" and the rust will cone right off. the whole point of using sand is that it wont pit the metal. so you can take your time. this project is cool AF.

If you don't want sand all over your living room you might want to make a booth to surround the car to keep it from going everywhere. A simple 1"x1" frame with some heavy clear roll plastic will keep the sand in and around the car, otherwise you'll be sweeping sand up for days. Ask me how I know. And don't forget about your hood and mask.

That goes for parts that directly impact road safety, passenger safety and emissions (sound and exhaust) Cosmetically you can modify everything however things that change the appearance of the car need to be registered, for instance change in color. I'm just curious. Did you look into dry ice for the removal process? It's the hot new thing, so was just wondering if you looked at that type of system cost wise vs. sandblasting. Thanks.
@sansberlin
@sansberlin Жыл бұрын
I did look into it. From what I understand, dry ice is a much less aggressive blast and is aimed more at cleaning dirt than blasting rust. Detailers use it, and the systems are very expensive. Media blasting can use many levels of aggressiveness, some being able to take off heavy rust. It’s cheaper and has more use cases

I would've connected the tube from the metering valve directly to the compressor hookup, just so the gun is easier to move around. (But I'm sure theres a reason to do it the way you did it. Lol)

I presume you've heard about the Harbour Freight jack stands recall a few years ago (teeth weren't deep enough for the pawl, causing the anvil to drop), and then the new version they offered as a replacement are also failing (at the welded vertical seam on the main body of the stand). Any worries about using the ones you have? I was thinking about buying identical ones (probably same ones as yours, from china I'm guessing), but i was gonna get an experienced welder to weld a plate in behind both open triangle part of the main body. Like you, i want the height clearance of the 12 ton ones, but don't wanna pay 300+ for them. Video showing recall info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIe6nHSaiZyWfM0
