Succeeding the 911 R, the Carrera RS was conceived as Porsche's premier high-performance 911 model, engineered for racing yet totally street-legal. The car represents one of the first examples of Porsche creating a consumer car to truly thrill their customer base with the best their engineers and designers could create. The cars would become the basis for all future high-performance 911s and feature a distinctive “ducktail” spoiler and an air-cooled flat-six engine. While 500 units were planned to meet homologation rules, overwhelming demand led Porsche to increase production. Two variants were offered - a “lightweight” model stripped of all superfluous components for maximum performance, and a touring model featuring leather upholstery, an electric sunroof, and a radio. The Carrera RS presented here underwent a comprehensive four-year restoration, with every component meticulously authenticated as genuine and numbers-matching.
