Thank you very much for your appreciation! We work on to find more heirs of Mr. Duhoux and his friends! Coming soon: - An article about two interesting testimonies concerning possible transport of the car to the USA and/or to Africa, - An article about the Brondeel Expedition- a trans-Saharan journey to Kongo that Mr. Duhoux participated in. I am open for questions.

Imagine seeing these stunning automobiles driving down the road back then. What a sight. Incredible video!
@djpierre46135 ай бұрын
The black car was build for Bugatti themselfs and was used for shows, testdrives and such. This makes the car a showcase model and (most likely) it would have been used to be a development vehicle with ongoing changes made to it. My guess is that the car had been dissembled before the mentioned trainride and many parts where used on other projects. Bugatti didn't care much about the prototypes, the aerolithe chassis is most likely used for another car and other parts where used on 57374 for example. This would explain why there is some confusion about the chassisnumbers. If the car still existed it would have sufaced by now...
@DrivingCurb5 ай бұрын
That sounds like a solid theory given that the Bordeaux arrival list mentioned as "automotive materials". I couldn't find the exact list but even mentioning it as "materials" kinda supports it. Only additional thing I can think of is maybe the initial version has an owner after Jean, like Duhoux and perhaps he made some agreements. But again that part is hazy as well.
@RoverWaters3 ай бұрын
This wasn't a prototype, furthermore it was the best design work and personal car of his late dead son Jean, so no, the car was not dissembled. Ettore had the habit to bury valuable cars to hide them. He did so before WWI, he also buried the wrecked car in which Jean died in 1939, he also had the Coupe Napoleon T41 car designed by Jean hidden behind a false wall so nazis wouldn'. get to it. Definitely the black Atlantic was also hidden.

Ettore Bugatti had the habit of hiding valuable cars before wars. before WW1 buried cars to hide them. After Jean died in 1939 the wrecked LeMans car was buried also, at hes order. Considering the sentimental value of the black Atlantic, being the personal car of his late son Jean, Ettore had the car sent to Bordeaux for safekeeping from imminent war and ...hidden the car. He also did something similar for the Coupe Napoleon for same reasons.

My guess, Bugatti hid Most of their cars during ww2 so (n)azis wouldn’t steal the cars. We know of a couple that survived this war this way. Now imagine if the axis did obtain the car, maybe even (h)itlter himself wanted the car. The Germans army main source of transportation for stolen art / goods was by horse or Train. Obviously too large Top be pulled by horses the car must’ve been transported by trains. Most If Not all railroads and trains were attacked / destroyed by American air patrols. Undocumented trains… All speculations, no real evidence. Thanks for reading. Have a good day.
