Hi from the UK . You may want to try using a torch to heat those stubborn bolts. Works most of the time. great to see you getting your boys involved with this project; they'll learn valuable lessons👍!

I will use a torch on very stubborn bolts, but that one broke extremely easily, I think it was just severely rusted. Thanks! I love having the boys help me and they are having a great time doing it.

Well done guys nice little car great family project. Whilst working on the interior and waiting for spare parts it would be a good idea to spray penetrating oil on all the rusty bolts that may need to be loosened on the car at a later stage. I have the 1958 MG magnette ZB and by doing this it helped me alot when the time came to removing any rusty nuts and bolts when doing repair work..

Great job, Dad! The guys are in this with you and are learning. Primary lesson is how to overcome adversity and get the job at hand done. Thanks for your effort to record this project as you plow through all the rust and crust. The guys are also learning the value of persistence to solve problems. I will be following along with enthusiasm. It is better to build boys than mend men. 🇺🇸⚓️ St Marys, GA

Lucas alternators can be taken apart easy but rotor in base need pressing out. Also casings reversable from left hand to right hand by taking 3 main bolts out tap seperate casings then rotate. Brushes inside top in box under tiny bolts 4.4.5 to 6mm used recon long time ago lol .

Great to see your kids helping you, while here i was thinking. I used to work on them a few years ago. Hah! A few, its dawned on me I'd see them coming new from the factory, off the car transporter. To the workshop / garage that i was working at back then. That snapped alternator bolt, well i guess itd been in there since new, 50 years ago. So although its annoying that happened, i suppose it was entitled to be unhappy with you, trying to undo it. I. Shane. G. (p.s. Keep up the great work. Plus, i know what you meant about camera work. It looks so simple to do, until we try doing it ourselves. 😮 I'd do multiple re-takes, sometimes up to 10. Just to say a few lines, in order, to camera.)

Very good job so far nice teem :) my grandfather used diesel fuel on the water system of the car also on the engine to clean up an old engine , after one week sitting remove the spark plug and turn the engine before put the diesel out. Nice memories cams up :)

The reason it wouldnt stay running at idle wasnt primarily the carbs per se, one of the carbs was obviously running without the choke being on and was causing an intermitant misfire on two cylinders, intermitant because the inlet manifold is a balancing unit between the carbs and with one carb running without choke this was causing an extremely weak mixture across all cylinders - which results in the shuddering travelling misfire you were experiencing, As I said on our previous posts all SU's require full choke at cold starting summer or winter BECAUSE they are constant velocities, once running the choke can be progressively backed off within thirty seconds as it warms up, it also helps enormously to keep the dashpot dampers topped up to about three quarters of an inch from the tops with fresh clean engine oil, dont worry they are MEANT to be filled this way, this limits the speed at which the dashpots can rise and helps prevent a sudden weak mixture causing misfires, the owners manual will tell you the same. I wish these videos were in real time...then you could have heard me scream at the screen NOOOOOOOOO dont hit the alternator adjuster with that hammer they are THREADED in lol...but too late worst luck
@DownSouthRustyClassics

On the will it run video I didn’t use any choke at all and it ran pretty well considering. I didn’t use any choke because the choke lever is frozen. In this video, what you see me doing while the car is starting is manually holding the choke shaft up so the choke was closed, as that’s the only way it will run now, which leads me to believe that at least one of the carbs is being starved of fuel I’m thinking maybe a bit of gunk internally broke loose and blocked a passage. With the dashpots, I checked them during the filming of this video and added some oil to the back carb, but did not include that part in this video. I knew better than to hit the ear on the alternator hard, and was trying to gently tap it, but accidentally swung a bit too hard and snapped it. I assumed, incorrectly of course, that it was not threaded because the other ear on the alternator was not. Live and learn! Lol.

That rad was doomed from the start, , I like how you dont just throw money at the B, I think theres plenty going on with the electrics , judging on whats been going on behind the dash, maybe time for a new front loom, should be no need to use any thottlle starting up just 4 or 5 seconds to get the oil started, then choke out, start, straight in to 1/4 inch fast idal ,until its driven down the road or warms up, accept nothing less Bet the carbs need some love. Your lad likes using the remote start, the old b series best engine to learn about, I own a 1969 mgb roadster.

Yeah, the radiator is definitely junk. Thankfully there are decent looking Aluminum replacement radiators on eBay for around $120. The SU’s are definitely going to need some love, the choke cable is frozen solid so I’m either going to have to remove it to try to work it free or replace it. In our earlier will it run video it actually started right up and ran pretty smoothly without the choke, but in this one I had to manually hold the choke shaft up for it to start and run. I’m thinking at least one of the carbs is getting starved for fuel. I’ll tear them down and rebuild them here soon. Thanks!

Yeah anywhere there is metal joining U need a gasket, it is common sense really bro , that is really what manufacturers made a "seal" And called it a gasket huh. And as a Brit we are replacing gaskets all the time, it is time consuming & a pain in the butt , but it has to be Done , have a nice day 🙄🙄

Oh, I know full well about the need for using gaskets, I had just thrown it on there so I had it with the car and didn’t have to go looking for it when I was ready to use it. Lol, guess I need to start spelling things out more in my videos!
