I think you've made a great job of it and you should be rightly proud. Great choice of colour too. I'm quite jealous actually as I've always fancied an MGB myself.
@Boothsmotors Жыл бұрын
Thanks! 😊 it’s still the original pageant blue! You don’t tend to see too many this colour it was only on cars from 1978-1980! People often mistake it for the earlier tahiti blue! (Slightly darker)

Yes , definitely worth it , you've learned a lot . I have an MGB GT which is a 74 model which mum bought in 1977 when I was 19. 5 years ago she gave it to me. I'm gradually going through all the systems getting it working well and I'm thoroughly enjoying doing it. Like you doing it all myself .👍

That is a lot of work! But ever since first seeing this car on the road (I won't tell you what year that was, but the car was new), I've thought the MGB GT is one of the best-looking cars to come out of the UK. So, I'm a bit jealous. Nice job!

Great job. Incredible how costs build up fixing up an old MG. I have had my MGs so long now I remember when they were cheap to fix and run. When replacement body shells were launched they were only around £1500 for a complete new shell ! Paint job looks great, and you saved a lot doing that yourself 👍
@Boothsmotors7 ай бұрын
thanks it’s far from perfect but always gets nice comments at the petrol station! £1500 that’s insane! It’s amazing how much bits mount up! Not sure the cars even worth what I’ve spent! Not that I’d sell it!

I beat you! my partial mechanical resto cost over 11k. Also found some bodgies that were done in distant past that some po had done. Something I also found out, was about the steering lock on these wears to a point that the lock can engage while driving, so could be dangerous, so if a clicking sound can be heard when stationery and turning the steering wheel beware, I had to get my steering lock replaced.. A guy I know changed his wires for a set of Dunlop steels, got fed up cleaning the wire wheels..
@Boothsmotors Жыл бұрын
@@davelinkson1 ahhh damn! Did you have someone else do the work? Allot of the parts were bought for this car from 2012-2016! Parts prices have skyrocketed since! I’ve had the steering column out this car too! The plastic insert in the collapsible column had turned to mush, giving mine a slight bit of play! I drilled and put some small plug welds in! Don’t remember looking at the locking mech

What a transformation! Congratulations on a first class effort.. although did you ever consider buying a new Heritage body? Colour looks great and definitely worth it and especially with the fact your family has owned it for a long time. MGs are great fun and hope you enjoy driving it.

Looking back now it’d of cost similar money to do a heritage shell! The thing is we didn’t have an open check book, we bought bits here and there and saved over several years! 2012-2018! It’s a lovely drive and It’s one car I could never sell!

Thanks for sharing. I can see why it absolutely made sense for you to do this. Do you think it would have stacked up if you’d had to buy the car and then do this (rather than, say, buying one that was well sorted)?
@Boothsmotors Жыл бұрын
Definitely not, I’ve learnt you’ve got to be very careful taking on a project! Even the white 944 was a borderline breaker! (Parts for those old porches are astronomical) I’d definitely say to anyone looking at a project make a list of parts needed and properly price it up! It’s a good job I can paint cars in my garage that’s all I’ll say!
@gregfrance1548 Жыл бұрын
@@Boothsmotors Yeah. The price of the paint compared to what you’d pay someone ti do it - that’s a huge saving. The blue paint looks good, too

a new shell would've been similar to total costs yes but.. then id still be spending circa 3k on suspension and other mechanical bits n pieces, plus I didn't have the money to do it all at once, bought them all bit by bit working part time at the local pub plus xmas n birthdays :)

To sell on not worth it. To keep with no car tax, low insurance and after all that been done and peanuts to run from now on if the b is looked after and garaged will be fine many years well worth it. Jeez she was in a bad way. I own a 1969 roadster.
